It's about a gambler telling his life story. the writing style is peculiar, but a lot of it is pretty funny. Like this:

"We had a good amount in common and since I had no siblings we became like brothers quickly. I suppose our brotherhood was consummated in the exchange of vices; mine was betting and his was drugs. This happened about a week after I started playing Spades. (I'd waited to introduce gambling until I was comfortable with the game; such restraint is still possible in the early stages of one's degeneracy and career.)
