Everyone keeps saying that xtremegammon is the best teaching software and play program…but what about for mac?

I am fairly new to gammon (about 1 year in), and would like to get a learning tool where I can play and analyze.

Thanks

I assume you are referring to Mac desktop systems.

You can run XG inside of a virtual machine (VMware Fusion, Parallels etc). The Virtual Machine would need to be running a full copy of MS Windows, and then XG installed ontop of that.

GNUBG is available for Mac OS/X. You need to make sure you have XQuartz (X11 window system) installed first. That can be found here: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/ . Download the DMG and then install the package (Then reboot). After reboot, to go to http://www.gnubg.org/index.php?itemid=22 . Download the appropriate version for your system. I haven't done any testing with 10.9 yet. Once you download the GNUBG DMG you need to open it up and drag the GNUBG program to the /Applications folder (It will not run properly from anywhere else).

BGBlitz uses Java and should run on OS/X. http://www.bgblitz.com/download.html . Download the "Mac OS X (Intel and PowerPC" version. There are instruction links on the download page.

XG is the strongest followed by GNUBG and then BGBlitz. BgBlitz and XG are commercial product and GNUBG is open source (there is no charge).
