In the UK, there is a liberal newspaper called The Independent. On a Saturday, it has a magazine supplement which contains a backgammon column by Chris Bray. It was it's 15th anniversary since the column was first published in 1994 today. Chris Bray has published some of the articles in book form.

I mention all this because it is great that Backgammon is promoted on a national stage in a big newspaper.

What is the situation in the USA in relation to Backgammon in the mainstream news media?

There is no backgammon in any mainstream news media. Many US newspapers print a daily chess problem, crossword puzzle, and sudoku but that's about it.

Edit: Most Americans have no idea how to set up the board let alone play backgammon.

The situation is similar in the UK but with The Independent we (backgammon players) got lucky.

It only takes one editor with an affection for the game and then you get yourselves an outlet.

I was not sure whether I was using liberal in its British English sense or American English sense but I opted - incorrectly for the BE sense which may be misunderstood by Americans- but at no point did I nor for anyone does liberal mean terrible.

Please give me an example of a non-terrible UK national daily newspaper.
