What do people think of playing the opening 6/4 roll 8-2, 6-2? According to xg, it's as effective a play as either of the other two traditional ways of playing it, but many seem averse to it. It's a play that would appear to create a less flexible position. As such, is it more likely to lead to a simpler game? And if so, is it the better play for someone playing someone stronger than themselves?

When your opponent opens with a 6-4 and makes the 2-point, it changes your opening strategy considerably. Making the 2-point makes it harder to play a priming game but easier to play a blitzing game, so you don't split your back men much. Instead you keep the 24-point and bring down builders and slot points. (2-1, 4-1, and 5-1 must all be played by slotting your 5-point. It's a good opening against a weaker player because he may not know this. Against a strong player it's probably no better or worse than the other 6-4 plays.
