In Kit Woolsey's 5 point match article he says the leader should be very cautious with initial doubles at 3 away 5 away, as the trailer can redouble loosely when there's gammons in the air and potentially gammon to win the whole match.

I get that. Where I'm confused is where he says the leader should be more cautious with initial doubles at this score than at 3 away, 4 away (2-1). Shouldn't the leader be even more cautious at this score since the trailer won't even need a gammon to win the match after redoubling?
