Re: What is the probability of God?

I think there is a 2% chance that there is a god and I'm hopping that my "one time" happens when that time comes.

Meh, people believe all kinds of stuff. Go with it if it makes you happy.

Re: What is the probability of God?

Also I keep thinking in the back of my mind for there to be a probability, doesn't the other outcome have to happen for it to make sense?

Everyone is getting trolled by OP imo

That's a great example that stopped me in my tracks! I should have thought that one through a little more. The only difference I can come up with is that I believe we have some reason to suspect a multi-verse due to certain scientific measurements (i.e. the weakness of gravity, etc.). In the meantime, you provided about the best example I can think of.

You can't really have a probability for this is what I'm getting at.

You're reasoning for why we can't have a probability is nonsensical (that doesn't mean your conclusion is flawed).

I didn't say we can't have probability, In the case where people are writing anything but 0 or 100% is where you can't.

To have anything that is 50% or 37%, the other has to happen is what I'm getting at.

So if someone doesn't believe in god or someone does believe in god, writes something in-between, the person is really writing something that they shouldn't be.

edit: Even for people that think there is a chance for anything, writing anything but 0 or 100% is foolish from a statistical standpoint.

Yeah, I don't even know how else to respond to iosys as those posts just don't make any sense. They're leaving me tongue-tied and confused.

If we had a single run of this, then the event either happened or it didn't, but the probability of it having happened before running the 'experiment' could be anywhere from 0-100%.

Yeah, you're wrong.

Similarly, what is probability that there is intelligent life (besides us) in the universe?

I don't think I'm wrong in this case and yes there are other questions where it doesn't make sense to think of there being a probability.

Also in the case of intelligent life being elsewhere (besides us), well there is life (us) and in OP's question we have no current god (among us as in people for your example). So I can see there being a probability constructed for life existing or not elsewhere but I haven't really thought about it as much. So take that with a grain of salt.

edit: For clarification your example is completely different.

edit again:fixed my wording.
