Some theists are sometimes offended by some things

Let me start with the following words: suck it up! And stop wasting our time with your childish complaints.

If you're offended by a remark somebody made about your religion, we don't care. Theists have said so many things so many times (including in this forum) that would potentially offend atheists. I haven't seen a single time an atheist complain about being offended. Those of you who keep getting offended: can you please get over it or stop asking somebody to take action against the "offender"?

And seriously, how strong is your belief in God anyway? You have the most powerful being in the universe on your side and you care about a petty atheist (who's going to burn in hell anyway) making fun of your religion? Grow up...

agreed, but this really doesn't need its own thread IMO

Re: Some theists are sometimes offended by some things

Agreed with both of you.

Anyone who can potentially be offended by someone attacking or ridiculing their beliefs (either religious or not) should not be in a debate. Playing the 'I'm offended by that' card is the worst thing you can do in a debate imo.
Also, to be offended by someone else's opinion is incredibly egocentric. The BLT comment had nothing to do with that as it wasn't part of a religion, mosque or sandwich related debate, but why not actually turn this thread into something useful, like, 'should people be 'allowed' to get offended when debating?'

My fundamentalist philosophy teacher would often get offended by opinions voiced in her lessons concerning God, which I thought was totally not cool.

I feel like it's a big enough issue that justifies having it's own thread. It's not just about the comment I quoted in the OP. It's about theists in general.

But do theists shout "I'm offended" enough for this to be an issue? It's possible, but from my perspective (and I've been here for a bit now) I don't really see this happening. Do you know of people who have tried to get others banned for "offending them" or anything of the like?

Re: Some theists are sometimes offended by some things

I have heard Splendour bitching about this. Hell, she even started her own thread about it.

But this it not just about whether they ask the person to be banned. I've recently encountered it in other threads as well, people complaining about someone being rude/insensitive, what not.

I obviously don't think it's the biggest issue in this forum, but it's big enough for me to decide to start a thread imo

As long as people aren't using this as a counter argument, or trying to get users infraction for "offending them" I don't really see what the issue is personally. (So far I'd say the large majority do not do this, which is why I don't feel this warrants a thread)

You obviously see an issue where I don't to which I say "fair enough"

Well, yeah. I mean, "it's problem" in any case. Consider this thread just a point I am trying to make even to those theists who don't want people punished for offending their religions

Alrighty Roo's suggestion is pretty close to my goals too.

What is beneficial about being rude, hostile, and/or offensive?

This is LOL.
Never seen anyone denounce Christianity in a single line before...
Wonder how self-proclaimed Christians of RGT are going to respond to this.

This guy makes the most insensitive comment, and people took offence to my small time joke the other day....

I can't see the atoms, yet I believe that atoms exist and were made by God as was everything else in this Universe. Similarly I never saw Jesus, but he is as real as you and me.

No one in this world argues about the existence of Mohammad, Krishna or Buddha, why do we then argue about the existence of Jesus? Isn't that an attack on Christianity and its foundation. Jesus is very real and he can see us all. He blesses us everyday with his love. How could we even be alive without God's miracles and his wishes.

I would have participated in this debate more actively, but existence of Jesus is already proved and discussed by many men and there is not much left to talk about.I would suggest that this thread be immediately closed since this topic is not worth discussing. Jesus needs no proof.

well yea, but I mean for all intents a purposes, dogg is a troll. All he does is post scripture, tell people how stupid their arguments are, and leaves threads when he can no longer come up with a valid response. I don't think he's representative of theists in this forum

Probably nothing. But:

1 - The point of this thread is not to encourage people to be rude/hostile to theists.
2 - Sometimes theists can get play the "i'm offended" card even if you're not being rude or hostile.

Eric, I took yours more personally, because we have a more personal acquaintance(I feel that way at least).

Yeah I feel that too,obviously.

I think I was able to make you understand that I was totally joking and didn't mean to ridicule.
I didn't find much wrong with your position that day specially after I explained my side to you. You took it well after that. No worries.

I have felt that most theist here are tolerant enough to have a charged discussion with them, ofcourse until you start to hurl insults. There are some exceptions like Pletho,FesteringZit etc.

One thing I hate about Doggg and other few theist posters in general is their habit of using Bible as Encyclopedia Britannica. Even when facing a simple 'yes or no' question, they find some verse that they think is absolutely necessary to their answer but it would go on to prove nothing in reality.
