It is extremely unlikely that life could spontaneously create itself, but I don’t think that’s a problem with this theory. It’s like winning a lottery. The odds are astronomical, but most weeks someone hits the jackpot.

The 3 together told me that Hawking thinks probability is relevant to these questions - which is contrary to what many skeptics say about, for instance, fine tuning. Not to mention that many skeptics also claim they think life was inevitable.

Edit: BTW, accidental life is NOTHING like winning the lottery.
