I'm not kidding. I would too. Seeing people behave like that. And on top of it, being all smug n **** I would do something irrational (punch to her throat did come to mind).

A troll video on YouTube in which a young American woman asserts that the devastation caused by japan's earthquake was due to God's anger at athiests has led to her cancelling her Youtube channel following an international web-based backlash.

The woman, with the username tamtampamela, uploaded a video in the days after last week's massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami, claiming the disaster was "God literally waking people up and saying "You are going to hell"

However, she was met with such a hostile response - including threats of death and rape (and even had her phone number and address published in some forums) - that she has gone into hiding.
I hope she's ok. What she posted was completely tasteless but she doesn't deserve violence as a response. Plus she might have a future in comedy, I thought her crazy fundie girl impression was pretty good. The video in which she admits she was trolling is at the bottom of the linked page.

Watching just the one video maybe it isn't that obvious. If you watched a few of the others and put the pieces together I think it would be obvious. One clue for me was that she put so much focus specifically on how horrible atheists are and their agenda, etc, without going into any other religious topics. Which is exactly what I'd expect a trolling atheist to do. The other thing is, anyone who really believed what she was pretending to believe would be extremely stupid, but she didn't seem to have any problem constructing grammatically correct sentences and using words properly. Just didn't seem brain-dead enough to me (actually I get the impression she's pretty smart). I do think she did a great job of imitating the attitude and mannerisms I would expect of a crazy fundie girl though. I bet she has a lot of contact with them where she lives.

was talking about this somewhere else - you think she's crazy for doing that troll? or creative?

for instance... would you necessarily be concerned if it was your daughter, mentally speaking, or would you be proud? let's just say she would be in zero physical danger.

I personally think it was an A+ troll (assuming it actually was and she wasn't backtracking), with tons of creativity and great acting- probably done out of boredom. My opponent believed that only someone mentally disturbed would do something like this, even if it was trolling.

Oh it was definitely an A+ troll. It got me all riled up (granted I was in a **** mood at the time) and she was completely leveling. Pretty gutsy troll though, as anytime you deal with disasters, emotions are going to run pretty high.

I just came upon this interview with Richard Dawkins and it seems pretty recent. I have to admit it was a painful to watch though.

RD is kinda a dick to this poor old man but ffs he did say some stupid ****.

edit: and i thought it was weird how when RD would make fun of the bible or jesus or something and laugh, the old man couldn't help but to laugh too b/c he knew it was funny. yet at other times i thought RD was going to make him cry.

I actually thought RD did a pretty poor job here and was off his game. There were so many other things he could have said, which would have had more impact, imo. The man was admittedly a "simple" man. His explanation of the eye was too complicated for him. Why not point out our remnants of a tailbone, or the 5 digit bones in a bat's wing, etc.?

Anyway, this type of discussion/debate should never have taken place and I'm sure RD regrets his decision to appear. He should never agree to be put on the same platform/stage as someone this ignorant and uneducated. It would be Stephen Hawking agreeing to debate physics with me. In this case, it gave the old man a sense of credibility he doesn't deserve.

Listened to it last night and watching it again. I have to say that while Ray's popints were all very clearly refuted, it went a lot better for him than I expected. What I think needs to happen with some of these apologists like Ray Comfort and WLC is that the debators need to agree to discuss one particular, precise topic to discuss, like the argument from design, and stick with that throughout the entire debate. One of the big reasons that apologists are able to come off looking much better than they should to those who do not really understand what is wrong with their arguments is that when they begin to get pinned down on something they usually quickly switch topics before every aspect of the previous topic can be thoroughly destroyed, leaving the listener with a sense that there are quite a few loose ends still remaining. What I would like to see is one specific topic thoroughly hashed out such that the apologist backs himself into a corner and is forced to change his position to an entirely useless statement Stu Pidasso style.

Yeah, I agree he did try to jump around from topic to topic so maybe it would have been better to stick to selected topics and pound on them , but at the same time Ray pretty much failed with all of his arguments and it was quite obvious to anyone watching or listening to the show, so I still think they did a pretty good job showing off how silly Ray's beliefs are.

I think a big part of why Ray looked better than he could have, was that Russell and Matt had clearly decided beforehand to be very civil.
That seems like a good choice; you cant really invite people on your show and just throw a tantrum at them,
but this approach also prevented them from pursuing things when continuing would have been rude.

Backing Comfort into a corner should actually be very easy. He only has one major argument:
The Bible is the word of God because the Bible say the Bible is the word of God.
If you will only eat that one bit of circular reasoning, he is good to go.
Debating anything else lets him build his arguments from the Bible, which should not be taken seriously, until he has demonstrated that the Bible is to be taken seriously.
