It would be pointless to have an atheist only "bickering" thread. We don't tend to bicker with each other that much.

So God and a Man are talking...

Man: So God, is it true that for you a million years is but a second?

God: Yes, that is true.

Man: Is it also true that for you a million dollars is but a penny?

God: Yes, that is also true.

Man: Great, so can I borrow a penny?

God: Sure, just one second

I like the Favre one:

Peyton Manning, Tony Romo and Brett Favre end up at the pearly gates together.

God asks Peyton Manning first: "What do you believe?"

Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in
hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I
was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans."

God can't help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left.

Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, "What do you believe?"

Tony says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields."

God is greatly moved by Tony's sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Brett Favre: "And you, Brett, what do you believe?"

Brett replies, "I believe you're in my seat."

About the song Psycho Killer

The line

"Je me lance vers la gloire"

was thought to be the last words of Isadora Duncan just before one of her long scarfs she often wore got caught in the spokes of a car wheel and nearly decapitated.

Just clicked play, watching "Islam: What the West Needs to Know"

Sounds like propaganda but I'm gonna see what's up.

One thing I learned so far: The Qur'an was dictated by Allah through the angel Gabriel to Muhammad. It was literally written word-for-word, taken from the horse's mouth.

This is why fundamentalism/literalism is so strong in Islam.

Sorry for the tl;dr kind of post, but I figured someone would read it. Mostly about my roommate who I feel has strayed off the path so far I think he may be lost.

I'm having problems with my roommate who believes he is a prophet of god and I need to honor his thoughts and feelings. He refuses to work because his family should be taking care of him as that is what god would have wanted for him. He has been writing prophecies and quotes in a binder for the last few weeks, if not months explaining about humanity and how we need to become closer to what we used to be instead of the ideal situation on a path towards westernized success.

He went to a conservative lutheran college, never worked, doesn't believe in education as it is a way of brainwashing. All these events below happened once he started disconnecting himself from the world and started reading heavily (over 40 hours per week). He use to have major entitlement issues and would receive anything he wanted and didn't understand need vs. want. So now he is backfiring against materialism in some way, but now it is a secondary factor in his decision making, thus causing him to remain confused about how a normal person should live on their own.

He puts himself on the level of Einstein, Mother Theresa, etc etc. His family is very worried that his own thoughts are making him more and more delusional and we do not know how to approach him about his new found religion fanaticism. Also, he has problems not sounding like a hypocrite because of his actions on how he treats his family, by saying one thing about how we should treat each other like all family and then making threats/accusations/guilt speech to make us feel like we are mistreating him.

He also has visions and "near death" experiences once in awhile, which cause him to act even more irrationally. I know he is not on drugs, but has been reading heavily on many different topics near spirituality and philosophy with some of these authors who explain DMT and other drugs which bring you closer to the spirit realm. I think this could have skewed his perception of the world.

Any thoughts are appreciated whether it be posted here or PM'd to me.

Rip,

Your post might be better suited for the psychology forum. It seems that he is suffering from a Delusional Disorder
Signs of delusional disorder
Quote:
The following can indicate a delusion:[5]
The patient expresses an idea or belief with unusual persistence or force.
That idea appears to exert an undue influence on his or her life, and the way of life is often altered to an inexplicable extent.
Despite his/her profound conviction, there is often a quality of secretiveness or suspicion when the patient is questioned about it.
The individual tends to be humorless and oversensitive, especially about the belief.
There is a quality of centrality: no matter how unlikely it is that these strange things are happening to him, the patient accepts them relatively unquestioningly.
An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility.
The belief is, at the least, unlikely, and out of keeping with the patient's social, cultural and religious background.
The patient is emotionally over-invested in the idea and it overwhelms other elements of his or her psyche.
The delusion, if acted out, often leads to behaviors which are abnormal and/or out of character, although perhaps understandable in the light of the delusional beliefs.
Individuals who know the patient will observe that his or her belief and behavior are uncharacteristic and alien.
The family should get him psychiatric treatment.

The problem is that his family owns the condo that we both live in and he refuses to help out his family and their business, but expects to be given food and some extra to spend with his friends.

Granted he's 24 yo and has a college degree in econ/finance. They financially cannot afford to keep doing this, but he guilts us into giving him money saying "if you do not give me food, god will, and if he doesn't I guess I will starve."

And I think this has absolutely nothing to do with religion. More to do with the kind of **** you see on Intervention. Religion is just the drug in this case.

This is the second time I have looked through Ryanb9's created threads. They are addicting. Don't know why but it's hilarious to me how some ppl respond to him. One guy says STOP MAKING THREADS. My favorite is the World Oath on page 8.

I think we should begin classifying gunth's posts

Here are a few classifications.

Class 1: Bible verse
Quote:
In this type of post, the only thing that is given is the book, chapter, and verse number, but not the actual verse itself. So you must guess which translation he is using. In addition, no explanation about the verse is given.
Class 2: TROLL!!
Quote:
In this type of post, he calls someone a troll, sometimes requesting the poster stop posting or be banned. He may 'ignore' you. If he does so, expect him to respond to one of your posts within the next 24 hours.
Class 3: No Offense But...

Quote:
This post starts out with the statement "No Offense But" and then makes an offensive statement
Class 4: LIAR

Quote:
He will randomly accuse a person of lying, without proof
These type of posts count for over 75% of gunths posts

don't give him anything. If God doesn't give him food, he'll change his tactics once he gets hungry.
