come on...
You are basing this on the belief that you have the one truth.
For those who disagree with your premise, however, things are not so obvious. I don’t think anyone has the one grand truth, and so I believe discussion is a fine way to approach any subject.

not at all skalf, i was basing my statement more on the predictability of the nature of the "bebate" that occurs on forums such as this one, and its fruitlessness, rather than anything I happen to believe.

Religious Believer: But it's right there in the bible
Atheist: Prove it though, scientifically
Religious Believer: OK, here's an interview with my local priest...
Atheist: WTF? lol
Religious Believer: long bible cut and paste job
Atheist: The bible means nothing to me, allow me to quote from the takeaway menu from my local pizza restaurant to humourously illustrate my point...
Religious Believer: long bible cut and paste job
Atheist: But science tells us A, B and C
Religious Believer: The bible tells us D, E and F
Atheist: Prove it though, scientifically

etc.

same pointless sh*t, different thread heading.

I found it very fruitful at the beginning. Maybe it is only fruitful to an extent.

"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" is a bad movie (just watched it) but it could have been interesting. Ben Stein is just dumb.

on a lighter note, the new robin hood movie is achingly boring and succeeded in robbing me of a childhood hero and a tuesday afternoon in one fell, pitiless swoop.

We did a book thread a while ago on Demon Haunted World. I'm finally reading parts of it. This passage from the chapter titled "No Such Thing as a Dumb Question" stood out to me.

Quote:
But there's something else: I find many adults are put off when
young children pose scientific questions. Why is the Moon round? the
children ask. Why is grass green? What is a dream? How deep can you
dig a hole? When is the world's birthday? Why do we have toes? Too
many teachers and parents answer with irritation or ridicule, or quickly
move on to something else: "What did you expect the Moon to be,
square?" Children soon recognize that somehow this kind of question
annoys the grown-ups. A few more experiences like it, and another
child has been lost to science. Why adults should pretend to omniscience
before 6-year-olds, I can't for the life of me understand. What's
wrong with admitting that we don't know something? Is our self-esteem
so fragile?
Cliffs: Kids ask questions, how do you answer them?

I was just thinking about this the other day.My four-year old is at that question stage: asking about the moon, the stars, etc. etc. etc. I give him honest answers when I can, and I do say that I don't know when he gets to the limit of my knowledge (which comes surprisingly quick at times!)

When he gets a little bit older, my plan is, when I don't know the answer, to bring him over to the computer, and start looking stuff up. I think it could be a good learning experience for both of us!

You might enjoy this comedy bit if you haven't seen it. It's 3 minutes long but totally worth it.

Awesome! I clicked on some of his other stuff, and the bits about kids is just hilarious if you have kids yourself.

In a thread that I deleted Batair linked to a Beastie boys song. That got me thinking about the band MU330 (don't ask me how.) and that got me thinking about how awesome SKA is, and how much I loved going to SKA shows. I don't listen to it much anymore, but I figured that I would post a little tribute to SKA with a bunch of bands I used to listen to. Some are ****ty live stuff because there was nothing else on youtube. So enjoy

MU330 - Hoosier Love Live

Screeching Weasel - Veronica Hates Me
The Vandals - "I Have a Date"
Mustard Plug - Mr. Smiley
The Specials - Gangsters
Less than Jake Johnny Quest Thinks Were Sellouts
GOLDFINGER: My Girlfriend's Shower Sucks
Goldfinger- Mable
Skavoovie & The Epitones - "Blood Red Sky"
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy- Mambo Swing
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - I wanna be like you
Cherry Poppin' Daddies - "Zoot Suit Riot"
The Impossibles - 14 - Eightball
The Pietasters - Biblical Sense - Possibly a RGT theme song?
Pietasters- drinkin' & drivin'
PIETASTERS - MAGGIE MAY - Pietasters was one of my favorite bands in high school. like every other song is about drinking (very fitting at the time.)
Spring Heeled Jack - "Pay Some Dues"
Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell could also be an RGT theme song (skip the first 30sec)
Save Ferris: Goodbye
The Bouncing Souls - Hopeless Romantic - this is for you ILP
Skankin Pickle - Fakin Jamaican

Now a little old school punk

Civ "Can't Wait One Minute More"
Don't call me white - Nofx
nofx - linoleum
NOFX - New Boobs - also for you ILP
Pennywise - Bro Hymn
The Ramones - I wanna be sedated
Limp - Eighteen/All About Paula
Lagwagon - Know It All
Lagwagon - Lazy
The Dead Milkmen - Punk Rock Girl
No Use For A Name - "Why Doesn't Anybody Like Me?"
Me first and the Gimme Gimmes - Leaving on a jet plane
Dead Kennedys - Kill the poor
Dead Kennedys Chemical Warfare
Nofx - Showerdays
nofx i don't want you around
Nofx-Brews
Bad religion - you

And to end on a topical note,

Bad Religion- Atheist Peace

gross, one of the kids in my house likes ska.

If you don't grow up listening to it, ska is awful.

Very nice, I love 80's music videos

Also, yes I listen to Bad Religion. They are a punk rock staple man! Why? You don't like them?

Yeah, I'm showing my prejudice by being a little surprised at the DK stuff, too.

While the political aspect is a part of the attraction for me, I tend to restrict myself to their more tuneful output - I'm not hugely into music as such. Very rare for me to like a song that I don't like the lyrics to, and extremely rare that I would like a song where I disliked the lyrics. And a lot of that hardcore stuff all sounds the same to me, anyway - it all falls under the 'screamy fuzz' bracket to which so many people I know are devoted.

Anyway as long as we're spamming up the forum with good tunes,

Psycho Killer - Talking Heads

This song describes exactly how I feel at most house parties.

That's a classic song. While spamming, a band that I just found out about not too long ago even though they are an older band is the Faint,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfPB7...eature=channel A buddy of mine did this video for a class or something. Great song.

Also, I have to throw in my current favorate band who happens to be a couple of my buddies,

No, I haven't caught that yet. I will look into it, good? I want to say that I have only seen them live one time and that was at the first, maybe second Warped Tour. Greatest all day concert I have ever been to. NOFX, Pennywise, Bad Religion, CIV, Goldfinger, and a bunch of other bad ass bands. And to top it off there was a riot!
