Logic versus Freethinking Logic versus Freethinking

Why is logic so important and can it be an impediment to faith?

There are many types of logic and just to name a few we have:

Syllogistic logic
Predicate logic
Modal logic
Deduction and reasoning
Mathematical logic
Philosophical logic
Logic and computation
Argumentation theory

Does reality in any way constrain one's personal logic?

These questions really arised from this dim analogocal comparision I've been making in my own mind between the two types of thinking: logical versus free thinking.

Now every one will dispute this but in a strange way I have been thinking that to think in a logical manner requires a type of "mental slavery" in that you have to prove every step before continuing and there seems to be a lack of the free flow of ideas. The joker in the deck is that at the outset our bias determines the route we will take. So logic seems to be much more constrained sometimes even limiting in a sense. The paradox in all this is that by imposing limitations we achieve a lot of good results in the real world.

Yes another one of my crazy threads. Have at it but gently, please. I know we have a lot of logic acolytes on this board.

Not sure what you mean because I've got several responses in my past few threads.

Well one reason why logic could be be important to you is this sentence in Koine Greek:
Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος, καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, καὶ Θεὸς ἦν ὁ Λόγος.

In our alphabet we use today, it looks a bit like this:
"en arche en ho logos kai ho logos en pros ton theon kai theos en ho logos."

In the weird line above the word "logos" is used 3 times; "logos" is just Greek for "word". "Logika" might translate into something like "on all things word", or "study of word(s)"; today we use the Latinized version "logic(a)".

The reason why I feel a bold freethinker like yourself might be interested in taking a closer look at logika/logic, is best explained by an English translation of the Greek sentence above, which you can find here.

Great post.

Jesus is both the word and all logic at the same time.

Thank you so much. Very insightful.

In a sense "logic" is the order of the mind.

I'll draw a parallel here for you. Last week I saw in revelation that the 7 spirits of God were before him on his throne. This is in Revelation 4:

So I had to look it up. What are the 7 spirits. They are in Isaiah 11:2:

So your post above: pure revelatory brilliance!
