level of tolerance of sacrificing for others level of tolerance of sacrificing for others

This question is for religious people and for the non egoist atheist.

Is it a sin (something bad) if you refuse to help other people in a situation that is beyond your level of tolerance? I'm sure the majority of people won't sell their house for the poor for instance. But usually the level of tolerance for helping others is much lower than this.

Let's suppose a God exists and he is rational. Would it be rational for him to hold people who don't help others if the suffering (pain) for them would be beyond their level of tolerance responsible and punish them for this?

Since god could have made us any way he chose, it's completely irrational for him to have created us flawed to see if we can overcome that and be worthy. He created and allowed our flaws. He also knows exactly what is going to happen anyway so there's no need, for him, to wait and see. None of it makes sense.

So, this is a big ask...

Sure. Within the rules such as they appear to be, sure, why not? It's not even the most extreme of the apparently irrational things that god has done.
