Ishmael by Daniel Quinn - a different take on Adam and Eve Ishmael by Daniel Quinn - a different take on Adam and Eve

I just finished reading this book. It was actually pretty good, and the interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve was very thought provoking.

Has anyone read it or heard about it?

Basically the story goes like this: for millions of years mankind lived in a wonderful garden and everything was fine. Eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil coincided with the agricultural revolution. Suddenly man thought he had knowledge of who should live and who should die. He could destroy a field of it's native life and plant his own crops. He could kill off any predators that threatened his cattle. Indeed, the story of Cain and Abel is recast as the struggle between early hunter gatherers (Cain) and early agriculturalists (Abel). It's a fascinating story and I'd like to hear other thoughts before I go into more detail.

Existence of biblical Adam and Eve is incompatible with evolution...

Interesting read. I read it a while back, so I'm fuzzy on the details. I was under the impression that it was purely fiction, even though it has Bible references. If it claims to be otherwise o.O
