Do you think ever, no matter how small the odds are, such an event would take place?
As long as the odds aren't zero, why couldn't it "ever" take place?

No hostility at all, just answering your question with a question to make you think.

Point being, nothing could get to to admit there is not God, at least not being serious.

Psa 53:1a The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God.
Thank you for the honest reply.

I hope to get some more answers before I develop the next question.

Good point. I let some of my values slip in there.

Defense. Hostile. Gtfo the thread if you're just here to troll and not to help me.

Cool. Thanks.

Are there under any other circumstances that you would decide there is no God or does it end at the mental illness scenario?

These are legitimate points in response to your question. No one is being hostile here but you.

If you don't like the formulation of their defense (i.e. pointing out the flaws in your assumptions), perhaps you are not ready to debate the topic at hand.

Edit: Well maybe the 2+2 one was trolling since that can be "proved". But Pletho's original response was spot on.

That was my initial reaction when I read the post, which is why I included a definition in my response. "Admit" has a connotation that acknowledgement of a fact is being withheld. When I looked at the definition online I did not really find that contained although online dictionaries are probably suspect.

Re: Honest question to anyone who believes in God.

Tultfill, the problem I have in answering your question is the same some other Christians will feel--we don't feel it's even remotely possible to have a world like the one we do with any explanation other than God. From my studies, I've never found an adequate accounting for the universe as we see it, human nature, morality, laws of thought, or virtually anything in reality. It's like C.S. Lewis said, something like, "I believe in Christianity in the same way I believe the sun rises; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." If God didn't exist, the universe couldn't exist-earth couldn't exist and mankind couldn't exist. "God" is written all over creation, including human nature, the laws of morality, the laws of logic and the laws of nature. This is why one poster asked what it would take for you to admit you're not you--denying reality as we see it is the first step for many Christians to disbelieve in God. If we were truly like the animals, having only instincts, and if we didn't ask questions like "Is there a God?" or any other philosophical question, that would be a good start.

What if a different God existed to explain the universe, the laws of nature, our morals and all the rest.

Then don't answer the question. I mean if you can't think up possible scenarios where you would decide that there is no God, that's fine. Personally I'd just be happy with your response if you said: "There are no such conditions" or "I can't think of any such conditions". I don't get why that sits so far in.

That's ok, we're on our way. I'm sure the church will come along, muttering, claiming that the Bible never says anything about man NOT being to be able to create life on his own.

That poster actually answered my question adequatly later on in this thread so I was very happy. I don't like riddles. I don't like crappy parallells. I don't like symbolics/semantics/rethorics. At least not when it comes to religion.

Ok, so you are just uneducated about evolution. That's ok. What you don't know can't hurt you and what works for you works for you.

...
...

Can you answer my question now please?

Honestly, you're too needy. This is about the nicest thread I've read on this forum in a long time. Even the typical trolls are giving you legitimate posts. So far, only your posts (and maybe this one by the time I'm done with it) have been attempts to derail the thread by focusing on your delicateness instead of the topic at hand.

Face it, this is a forum. You can make a post to start a thread, but you don't own the thread. Why don't you just accept what you're given and ignore what you don't like? You'll need far thicker skin than this if you plan to continue this thread to make some grander point than you've made so far.

Go have fun this weekend and come back to this thread in a happier mood.

This is a poor thread....

Lay off the "NEW THREAD" button..

What is an "honest question" anyways?
