Re: Doctrinal Grids?

I don't think literal atheist fundamentalism is to blame here. I think we simply don't know what a "doctrinal grid" is.

Communication is a 2-sided affair, they tell me.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. People would no longer point out how ludicrous her posts are, at the very least. I think she'd basically be ignored, and could go on using RGT as her personal blog, completely unfettered.

Re: Doctrinal Grids?

Why would you need to know she has a mental illness before you show her compassion?

No one said that was a prerequisite. I guess it could be implied though.

I'm more inclined to show someone who posts the things she does due to mental illness, than I am to someone who's just trolling for attention.

The doctrinal grid is just like a statement of beliefs. It's linked through the op link.

I think you can use logic too brittlely. Logic tends to drain the human and the godly aspect out of religion.

It doesn't allow for any compromises and life is a lot sloppier than logic allows for.

Logic leaves me with the impression it is rather merciless in its pursuit of exactness. Perfectionism is usually a psychological fault in parenting. I wonder why so many people pursue logic so ruthlessly in theology and philosophy.

Re: Doctrinal Grids?

I have no mental illness except maybe a little posting compulsiveness. Most players are compulsive types.

I took a personality test just the other day for kicks. It wasn't the greatest test but I came out slightly introverted and steady. Personally I think I'm a bit more than slightly introverted and a bit more than steady but what do you expect from a $4 questionnaire test? Nothing too geniously specific that's for sure. For that you need the ability to be introspective, the bible and the Spirit of God.

Logic is a tool, nothing else - in itself it has no intrinsic value. Like a hammer, what matters is the principles behind your usage and what you want to do.

It's cold in the same sense a hammer is cold, but you'd be hard pressed to look at Michelangelo's statue of David and say it is ruined by the cold precision of the hammerwielding.

So true. It is cold but useful and exact.

That's why I recently learned the term psycho-logic and think that is what the bible uses. God appeals to both psychology and logic in the bible.

Psychology is even more convincing than logic to most people and can have an intuitive element. It kind of depends on one's temperament.
