Could someone give me some info on how cashgame staking deals should/could work?
For example if I roll someone with $500 for nl25, how should the stakee refund me?

Cash stakes vary depending on the periodic timing that you settle up. Do you settle up after each session, day, week or longer? The longer the period, the fewer times that you have money transfers.

Another issue is the move-up/move-down question. If you run hot, can the stakee go higher? Should the stakee get express approval to do so? What if a juicy fish appears at a higher level?

I'm thinking of staking several friends into the Full Tilt 150 seat WSOP ME sat. For the purposes of discussion, assume they are of average talent. I've never been involved in staking from either side of an arrangement, so I have no idea what a fair split would be.

If one of them wins a 12K seat, and chooses not to play the ME, what would be a fair split? Is 50/50 more for me than usual, or less for me than usual?

If one of them wins a 12K seat, and plays the ME, what would be a fair split of their winnings, if any? Is 50/50 more for me than usual, or less for me than usual?

I appreciate your input.

80/20 in your favor is the 'norm' for a one time tournament staking deal like this but you should do whatever you and your friends are comfortable with.

If your friends are just average, a 80/20 seems realistic/fair really as they wouldn't be playing in it on their own and such.

As for the cash stake of $500 at NL25, usually the split is 50/50 (or whatever percentage you two worked out given stats/history, etc.) after inital repayment. So if he makes $1500 the first, month say, when you want payouts/distrubutions, it would go to $1000 after you get your initial $500 back, then divide it up 50/50, 60/40, etc., and start back over at $500 (basically recycling) or you can just keep building up the bankroll after you get your $500 back and not divide anything up.

Because there's less evidence publicly available that they're a good player.

If you have enough faith in your own judgement to go against the crowd, do so.

Hey guys I'm new to this site, have been an occasional reader for some time. I primarily read P5's and post some there. I would like to possibly do some staking on some smaller limit players. I basically look as this as a form of potentially investing some of my poker winnings. I understand all of the risks involved but feel that this could be a really good opportunity given the right situation. I would appreciate any and all tips/feedback from anybody who has staked before. The main question I have is how do you know that you aren't getting scammer (ie they withdrawl before they show you a screenshot of account balance.) I'm assuming you should be able to see an account balance and transaction history as well as PT info which should cover things, but how do you know the screenshots weren't photoshopped?? Sorry if these are silly questions and I sound like a newb, but I really would appreciate all feedback. You can post here, PM me, or email me @ scottw@mscloan.com Thanks in advance for your help!!

Well KC, this is the staking discussion thread, not the offering thread which can be found a few posts down.

Likewise, the only way to know you won't get scammed or photoshopped is by trust. I don't think you should be giving much money to a person who you believe would even think about scamming/photoshopping you, so hope that helps basically. There's no real foolproof way of not getting scammed/photoshopped though.

State taxes are typically deducted at time of win: I.e 5% Louisiana state tax for my WSOPC cash in New Orleans. I'm not sure which other states have a similar tax.

Fed taxes are typically paid later when the American files his US tax return. As long as the American provides his SSN to the casino they will give him a W2G and they do not withhold federal tax. If he cannot or will not provide this info (i.e. a foreign player) then the casino withholds 28% for federal taxes.

You can't "claim" the horse's winnings (unless you sue like Jamie Gold's backers and get the court to order the casino to fold the funds). There is nothing wrong with the horse handing the money over to you and you paying the horse back his share, but all this will have to documented and explained by the horse when he files his tax return.

im thinking about backing someone for nl cashgames.

hes a proven winner at nl400 and i think about staking him a 5k bankroll to work his way up from nl200 following a strict 25bi br management. whether nl600/ nl1k shots are allowed is still to be decided.

i think about limiting this deal based on either time or # of hands.

all the risk would be on my side, means he doesnt risk a cent.

how many percent of his winnigs should i get? im totally lost on this one tbh. help much appreciated.

note: hes not a friend, this is solely for profit purposes since i assume this money will yield me much more interest than any other form of investment.
