So essentially, he's charging thousands of dollars (assuming they don't go on a big swing in their 85k hands) for a couple of hours of coaching.

If dtan is staking someone for a higher level than they are playing (say, 1 level higher) and is taking 50% of profits, then the player is effectively playing the same limit that he was prior to staking (profitwise). Throw in the coaching/poker strategy discussions etc and I don't see how this is remotely a 'scam'. Sounds more like a great opportunity to study the game intensively and learn from someone with a lot more experience.
