Thought I'd break this down in to sections similar to the bullet points that stakers quite often seem to give when searching for horses. Sorry if TL;DR. Just putting this out there to see if there's any interest.
About Me
I’m a long-term MTTSnG winner looking for backing in the 180 mans on Stars. I started out playing – with any degree of seriousness - the 90 mans on FTP and was kinda successful there, also binking a couple of MTTs over a very small sample. In may 2011 I also went through about a six-month period of playing cash games (was successful up to NL50) but came back to SnGs/MTTs eventually. Really glad I went through it though as I think that period has given me an edge on other micro SnG grinders. You see some terirble post-flop play in the 180s.
I LOVE learning about poker - those educational leg-ups are really exciting I think - and it’s very important to me that any backer I find would be able to coach or offer out-sourced coaching too. I've had a bit of coaching from a few different people - HU with CogDisonnance, SnGs with BigBluffZinc, Cash with Andy “Koadyawn”.
In terms of dealing with variance, when playing cash games I went on about 100k hand breakeven stretch after crushing for a couple of months. I played and played and played, basically, trying to get out of it. When I first started playing the 180s a few months ago I immediately went on a 100 bi ds (as much because of learning a new game as because of variance) and couldn't really get my head around it but I played through that and can see how profitable they are now, if SUPER-swingy. Anyway, I feel really good about that element of my game now. I was super tilty for a while but the more tables I've built up to and the greater my experience the less it seems to have an effect.
Finally for this section, if I do find staking I'd like to set some reasonable but ambitious goals with my backer and start a PG&C thread for motivation and as a kind of journal.
What I’m Looking For
I'm looking for backing to play with 8/3r 180s (happy to mix some 2.5s also but won't accept a stake based solely around those). Depending on success it’d be nice if there was room to move up if my results and skillset allow that. My personal bankroll is around $1.5k atm so I’m pretty comfortably rolled for the $2.50s that I’m currently playing but moving up is proving difficult because I’m having to cash out for life expenses at the moment as I lost my job not too long ago. Another reason I’m looking for a stake is that I’m a bit of a bankroll nit and have never got a big sample at much above the $5 level. In terms of volume, I can put quite a lot of time into grinding (~7-8 hrs a day, 6 days a week, currently 16-tabling) and would be looking to play at least 2-2500 games a month. As I said, I also really want to improve and, if I'm going to be backed again, I want help with that. The question for me is whether it's more +ev to grind my $1500 playing $2.5/8 180s or get backed to play 8/3rs etc and get coaching. In an ideal world I’d like to be able to keep FPPs/bonuses.
