If you insist on doing it that way then, no, 50/50 with MU isnt bad, it's about as standard as MU deals get. If it's a one off tournament it makes no sense though, how will you get out of MU? If he backs you for other stuff then yea, you can throw it into the pile.

I presume that a common staking arrangement would be where the backer puts up the whole entry fee and splits the winnings 50/50 with the horse. But what if the backer and the horse each put up half the entry fee, what % would the backer receive in this scenario? Would it be 25% or 50%? 50% doesn't seem fair for the horse since he/she could receive that same amount without putting up half the entry fee.

with or without makeup?

Without.

50/50 split for a single tournament with no make up is a terrible deal for the staker unless the horse has a massive edge, and isn't a common deal at all.

Ok. Could someone then propose a reasonable deal using a scenario where the horse and the staker both pay half the entry fee for lets say 10 tourneys? Can be with or without makeup. Horse is solid winner but not spectacular.

The staker can buy a 50% share of the horses tournaments, either at face value or at a markup (usually up to 1.3x face value) depending on how good the horse is/ what price he can get away with selling at. no make up is involved in this deal.

what do you think your long run ROI in this event is?

If you sold this to him at, for example 25% markup, then 50% of the buyin would give him 40% of your action. If you sold this to him at 0% markup, then 50% of the buyin would give him 50% of your action.

Ty Korova and Azn, I understand now that I can use markup to realize a fairer price if I'm paying half the entry fee.

A further question I have is : what does a typical long term staking deal with makeup look like these days?

It can really vary a lot but here is how i do it with most of my horses:

Start a horse at 60/40 (in my favour) for a test run, with make up. After the test, i move them to 50/50.

According to the level of the player we set up the cashout amount/time. Generally amount is better idea, since it gives them clear target to achieve. After they reach targetted amount, we split the profits and i let them take all there share.

Right after, i send the horse fresh amount for next run. This way they continuously keep getting cashout and do not have to invest even when they are winning.

If they go burst on a transaction i sent, i send them more and now they make up for the amount and then try achieve the targetted cashout amount again.

Pretty neat, working fine for me with around 7 players

Hello all

I would like to know your opinion about the following

Ive been staking someone since the beginning of his year (2011)
He hasnt won a lot so far just a couple K

We agreed that he would be staked for FTP and Pokerstars
One time he asked if he could play a tournament on PartyPoker and I agreed with that

So far he hasnt played a lot
I stake him because Ive known him for awhile and I like him
I also have been very nice to him and not been strict or whatever at all

Now last sunday he won 5k at Titan Poker probably with his own money

He did a late registration and he cashed stakee money to his PayPal but didnt use that money to deposit on the site because he deposit it there with his own money because he was out of time and he says he never intended to use the stakee money to play on the site he only cashed that stakee money to his PayPal because he says he thought that would be quicker and says he would have deposit the amount back with his own money

So he tried to deposit with his bank A but that took too long than he tried to deposit with the stakee-account->PayPal way but that took too long too so he used bank B to deposit on the account and that worked fastest and than when he was already playing the tournament he finally got the stakee-account->PayPal money on his PayPal
So he used his own money to play the tournament and the stakee-account money had only been on his PayPal for a couple of hours and never on TitanPoker

He says he can proof all of the above things

That same night he sent the buy in back to the stakee account

Should I get my share of it?

Thanks for your help and a happy new new year!

Im looking to stake a good friend of mine in MTTs and I am wondering whats a good deal for us both..

-Id conclude his ROI is somewhere between 20-35% over a large sample
-100% no trust issues
-Would like a deal that consists of no MU
-He keeps his rakeback and vpps I dont want it to get complicated

Im thinking 60/40 +Buy-in refunded to me in every tourney he scores or 70/30 smooth buyin included in the prize... any help would be greatly appreciated, am I being too nice? this is a good friend but I dont want to be giving away money at the same time

A legal question, any lawyers on this forum?

- Does it matter who you accept a stake from?

- a person in a state (like Utah) in which gambling is not legal?
- an underage person?

To clarify - my questions are what are the legal qualifications of a backer? Are there any?

I'm sure this is somewhere but I can't find it -- In a one off buying a piece situation, how does the entry fee factor in in a typical arrangement?

Say the tournament is 500+60 and i sell a 100 piece. Did I sell 1/5 my action or 1/5.6?

I am currently in a staking deal and would like to leave it early. The original deal was for my backer to take 50% of my action over a fixed number of hours of live play. I've played 1/6 the agreed upon number of hours. So the staking agreement is still worth a considerable amount to him in EV. Is there a standard way to decide how much I should pay him to be unbound from the agreement?

Hi

I never been staked but I've staked my friend before for $70 and got $180 back in 1week. Im wanting to get staked but dont really understand how it works, my sharkscope : http://www.sharkscope.com/?username=...earchtype=SNGO and im pretty confident beating my level which are £5 husng in skypoker, Im wanting to take shot at the next level which are £10+0.50 husng but a bit of a nit with bankroll so can anyone explain what I should do to get staked and stuff? Bit difficult especially since I'm not known but some guidelines would be helpful because I have 0 clue ATM.

Thanks
Kind regards
Lee

I have a question about how makeup generally works. Before today I thought that staking meant that the staker supplies the stakee with a bankroll, and if that backee loses the roll (within the terms of the agreement) because of a downswing / not being +ev at higher stakes then he didn't have to pay it back, and if he was profitable he would pay the backer 50% of his winnings.

Basically I thought staking was meant to minimize risk for the stakee so that he could play higher stakes in exchange for giving up 50% of his profit if he was profitable.

Anyway my question is if you go into makeup do you have to pay back the makeup at the end of the staking arrangement?
