Robert started playing poker at the young age of 15, playing 3 handed freezouts with his two older brothers for pennies. His game started to come together when he started attending Leeds University, he discovered a poker society and began playing £10 freezeouts and 10p/10p home games before making the jump to online poker. Robert started with micro sngs and mtts and moved up quickly from 6’s to 109’s. He noticed the profitably of cash games and into jumped 2/4 games and never looked back. Today, you can find this 21 year old from Doncaster, UK playing anywhere between 2/4 and 10/20 NLHE on Pokerstars. Not bad for a former part time supermarket worker.
In the past, Robert had trouble with tilt and emotional issues when attempting to move up the stakes, often resulting in failed shots and requiring him to move back down and regrind his roll. At times, he would run his roll up to 60k, only to drop 50k in a day playing 200/400 limit games under rolled. Now he says “I am much more in tune with my mental and emotional state when I am playing. In short, I am much better at quitting nowadays. Tilt control and bankroll management has by far been the biggest obstacle I have faced as a poker player.”
Robert accredits training sites, especially Leggo Poker, for his rapid development as a player. The resources available combined with hard work made it possible to achieve success. He says “I believe a great deal is just down to the individual though. If they have the right attributes as a person and the right mindset as a poker player, it just comes down to how much they want success and how much they are prepared to do to get it. There is so much information available to players if they look hard enough. There are some people you know will never ever become a decent poker player but if you have the attributes and mindset that I mention then the sky is the limit “
In the future, Robert plans on playing poker and possibly go into some business ventures and investments. He says that poker will always be a huge part of his life.
