Curious how many omgers think they could finish a marathon if they had 1 year or less to train?

man anyone can do a marathon if they have a year to train.

This is one of those rare occasions where I agree with Luke. I think that's way too easy. Maybe if you put a time limit on it, then we've got something.
04-23-2017 , 08:59 AM
I can't.

I seem to have a very definite exertion level that is less than the average. I can do low level aerobics forever. Medium level for about an hour. High level for a few minutes, before I can't push through anymore.

After that it is asthma attack and seeing stars.

When I was 21, and seemed in absolutely perfect shape, it annoyed me and I tried to fix it. I went to the gym at least once, but often twice a day and ran flat out, fast as I could, until I saw stars and thought I would pass out.

Spoiler:

After a year of that I had extended my endurance from 9 minutes to 11 minutes.

I'd never get over an hour of light jogging, and I'd certainly never finish in a respectable time.

You said, "Somewhat respectable time"

That's what I was thinking.

I mean, 40k people were in this marathon, and apparently 99% finish, and I saw old ladies, fat dudes, people in costumes, all racing in this thing.
04-23-2017 , 09:05 AM
According to a quick google, a rough average is like 4 hours 20 mins. That sounds doable to me, but I might need the year to train

But were they actually racing?
04-23-2017 , 09:11 AM
If they start the race and finish it, I'd say they were racing.
04-23-2017 , 09:12 AM
Sure they're not pro marathon runners, but we weren't talking about being at the pro level.
04-23-2017 , 09:13 AM
It would require huge incentives for me to train for a marathon.

Kristy I suffer from a similar problem, but figured it was because of being fat and lazy. I never tried to correct it, I've just avoided cardio
04-23-2017 , 09:14 AM
Oh, meh. I could throw 45lb Lily on my back and walk it.

My little sis RUNS them. Like for fun. I'm in awe of her.

Lol. Solid life strat, imo.

I'm neither fat nor lazy. I just can't even...
04-23-2017 , 09:19 AM
That's what I'm saying. Anybody could finish the thing with no time limit. I do think 4 hours would be tough though. To jog for 4 straight hours doesn't sounds easy to me.
04-23-2017 , 09:23 AM
If finishing in 4 hours, that's like 9.5 minute miles... and that doesn't seem that fast to me.
