Fwiw I sensed the sewing notion joke was funny even though I don't know what a sewing notion is.

I don't think that amoral individuals living a long life and dying of old age eliminates the potential for karma, although it certainly requires a much more holistic perspective of what you mean when you say life.

I go there often. The ladies at the local craft store roll their eyes and groan when they see me coming in. I may lose my redneck card for that, but I don't care dagnabbit! lol

You could learn to sew up backpacks or hem pants etc in five minutes and have the skill for life!!

Yhea, that is why they had to come up with the multiple lives thing. It is the only way to square the narrative. I am not interested in that part. I am gonna be too busy trying to fix how far I fall short from the man I mean to be in this life I don't have time to worry about another.

I don't think it necessarily requires reincarnation, but that is the easiest way. The other seems to be along the lines of eliminating our traditional perspective of the individual, and can be a tricky path to navigate imo.

The latter is an easier sell to me. What I do for others I do for myself. Seeing an fMRI of Matthieu Ricard being tortured in various ways while imagining helping others and him being as happy as me being mobbed by a band of Victoria's Secret models that are all just nuts about morbidly obese know-it-all funny rednecks that sew their own pants. That would convince anyone. It really does not have to be altruistically motivated.
