Not really. It's not a waist size, it's the circumference around the widest part of your body. I wear size 32 waist and they taped me at 38" during my test. And I'm not fat (anymore). Abdominal fat puts you in a higher risk category for CAD and heart attacks, but idk if that is the USAF motivation. If it is, perhaps that's related to a perception of paying a lot in health benefits and knowing that the job itself it high stress and adds another risk factor.

Just guessing as I have no idea why else it would be weighed so heavily as part of the physical (just realized dumb pun but not changing it).

It's weird that they don't measure at a standard spot on the body though.
