Terror attack on German soccer team was attempt to profit at stock market Terror attack on German soccer team was attempt to profit at stock market

On the 11th of April a bomb attack targeting the German soccer team Borussia Dortmund was made; fortunately it largely failed. Letters which claimed responsibility on behalf of Islamic fundamentalism where found at the scene, although the police found them fishy somewhat.

Now it turns out that the bomber purchased put options for Dortmund shares, and intended to profit from them by plummeting Dortmund's market value with the bombing. Here are a couple of articles in English about this:

This seems like straight out of a conspiracy thriller. Did terror attacks for stock market profit happen before? Thoughts?

Not terror, but there was a guy in the 80s who sprinkled rat poison on over-the-counter pills in the hopes of driving down the manufacturer's stock prices. This partly led to the tamper-proof packaging that we have on consumer goods today.

Investigators traced the IP address for the purchases to a hotel in Dortmund where the team had been staying before its Champions League quarterfinal match against A.S. Monaco, prosecutors said.
