Do I have to worry about Full Tilt or moneybookers/etc going under due to the financial crisis?

Frankly, I hadn't thought of this before, but god knows where FT stores their money and what the risks are.

I too have thought of poker website counterparty risk. The correct answer to your question is who knows, and the poker companies aren't going to be honest about where they are keeping their money and how it is invested.

Who's doing that?

On one hand, poker sites have in general proven themselves to be scheisty mofos, as stated, and I believe Full Tilt has had its share of this in terms of trouble with checks/cashouts/bots/etc., though nothing too serious and they are one of the most reputable for sure.

On the other hand, their revenues are so enormous for such a small effort on their end, and not being able to honor cashouts would mean the immediate and total failure of the company, so if they have any brains at all concerning risk, they should be doing everything in their power right now to make sure all that cash is on hand and accessible, especially given the current situation.

That said, there's no reason to keep funds in excess of what you need for your bankroll in a poker account, but that's always been true.

If we weren't forced by govt restriction of personal freedoms to deposit money in foreign companies outside of the jurisdiction of american courts, we wouldn't have to worry.

Are you honestly serious. You consider the poker industry a "free market"? Maybe if every money processor and poker site wasn't shut down and/or forced to do business from offshore, more legitamete sights and money processors would be able to flourish and prove their honesty.

that's like saying drug dealers are all free market. But when I buy my crack I have to buy it from a shady mofo and I fear for my life. If only the government would come in and regulate the crack industry I'd feel so much safer.

I would certainly say that online poker is a much much freer market than 99% of businesses in America.

It's hard to be free when you can't distribute money to your consumers or even do business in the country of your customers

But they can and do distribute money to and do business with their customers in the US.
