Hey zep, I remmember railing some mid-stakes tables just for fun and seeing you there so it's kinda cool seeing you answer questions in this post. Just a few from an aspiring player:

* I hear you recommend "The poker mindset" , I've added that to my list, what other books do you recommend that you feel made an impact on your play?

* Would you ever consider coaching/making vids/writing poker-relater stuff?

* What is the best advice you can give to an aspiring player that wants to climb up stakes?

Well, I lost KK to KJ, QJ, and A10 in three bet pots today in about 25 minutes and lost about 4 other stacks to wipe away the profits of my 10 hour session last night. Needless to say I was pretty ****ing tilted.

Edit: I'm playing pretty poorly right now. I'm on about a 5 week stretch of just brutal cards. My tilt-monkey problem is basically in full form and I am a pretty pathetic poker player atm. It's times like these where I'm really glad I have my job. Which is really funny because when I'm running normal I usually think, why do I have a job?

That's all I can recommend, I've never read any other poker book.

* Would you ever consider coaching/making vids/writing poker-relater stuff?

Yeah, I am actually considering it right now. I'm not sure I'd have the time and there are plenty of great coaches out there.

* What is the best advice you can give to an aspiring player that wants to climb up stakes?

Focus and put in volume. Don't tilt if you can help it.

ohhhhhh sh*t Zep THATS YOU

I have very vague memories on specifics other than the fact that you opened a ton and were difficult to tango with, tho I def 3bet a couple of ur opens for 4x with squadoosh for balancing purposes cuz u could never play back at me with 95% of ur opening range.

definitely made it harder for me to be table captain cuz I dont like to incur variance wars in a tournament like that.

it also sucked cuz I had no idea who you were but you were playing good. if u werent wearing stars gear i would have assumed u were a live 25/50 player or something.

I had 99 this hand. I just couldn't imagine you having a hand that I beat on the river. A wise man once told me, "If it looks like I can't fold, and you shove, I probably should fold." I hate the way I played this hand so much. My turn bet sizing is atrocious.

FWIW, I tried this same strategy on Kemikar yesterday. He did not fold...

Yeah, I was opening 1/3 of hands. Our table was so weak, everyone was c/fing to me because they were all scared. Literally I won almost every hand I played in the first level. I busted a guy 30 minutes in and won another big hand with QQ in a three bet pot and from then on nobody wanted to play with me. You and Elon were the only people who knew what you were doing, but we didn't play one big hand together.

ohh, I do remember a hand you played with ylon

you open in EP, ylon defends. flop comes like 742r, he donks you raise he 3bets and you flat. turn something, he bets and you fold claiming jacks but later kings but later lol whatever

vs ylon i dont think u can have a raising range on that flop except with air. kinda curious to know what u had there, i think any overpair is a flatcall versus his leading range on the flop but u can make an argument for raising there maybe.

pretty sure that was u vs ylon but if not then nvm

-----------

im trying really hard to think of random questions, I guess one would be how much time do you dedicate to analyzing the play of the regulars? I would assume that with that much volume you'd have to get an idea towards how the regulars think but considering you are playing 24 tables it would be hard to log that kind stuff in real time. what efforts/tricks do you do to solve the regs or do you just grind and say fk it?

Yeah, I had 56 that hand. I don't mind the way I played it. I'm positive he had a set or KK/AA. I can't see him taking that line with any other hand. It was 4k more for me to call and I had like 60k in chips if I did so I thought calling was fine b/c I was taking his stack. I definitely would have just called if I had 1010-QQ. I only said I had queens b/c he said "did you fold queens there? I think he did".

I don't spend tiem outside of playing to analyze the play of regs. I watch very closely to hands going on that I am not involved in to get reads on opponents and better understanding of ranges in certain situations. I have seen so many hands with everyone I play with that I can assess very solid ranges preflop and very narrow ranges postflop imo. It would probably be +EV for me to actually analyze this through HEM, but I just don't have the time.

Awesome well Zep, You are truly an inspiration to an aspiring poker player.

Quick question, how do you get reads/analyze the play of the regs while 24 tabling? I used to 12 table but moved to 9 tabling so I could pay better attention to hands going on. What am I doing wrong?

Getting reads while playing isn't really that difficult. I stack, so whenever there is a big hand going on (whether I am involved in the hand or not), I pull that table off to the side and watch what happens while playing my hands. You can learn a lot this way and I see a big hand every couple minutes so that helps a lot.

How could I possibly tell you what you're doing wrong with so little information? Playing more tables might not actually be optimal for you. It takes a long time to play over 20 tables. I was just a nuthunting mega nit when I first started. Playing optimally on more than 16 tables is very tough and definately not for everyone.

i didnt realize u had so much success in trnys jimmy. I ****** hate trnys lol. but one of the main reasons is because the time requirements. I only play them on sundays now and i think im going to just nix them from my life all together. I hate feeling like im strapped into a seatbelt that I cant take off unless i just want to run my car over a bridge. However, since you said a lot of the time ur putting in super long sessions, do u ever think about going back to trnys?
