River Spot...

5/10 NL:

Hero (CO) (~4k) - neutral image, kind of TAGgy I guess.

Villain (HJ) (~3.5k) - plays okay, can figure out where he's at post flop most of the time. kind of has a "live" style in that he still limps a bunch of medium strength hands and limp calls and calls pre a lot.

SB (~1k) - irrelevant to the hand

BB (~800) - random really bad player. will call any raise with probably 80% of hands and take retarded stabs at pots post flop. donk bet middle/bottom pair, check/call with anything, and just generally play terrible.

Dealt: AJ

PRE (15):
2 limpers in EP, and MP, Villain (HJ) limps, Hero RAISE 70, SB and BB call, 2 limpers fold, and Villain call.

FLOP (300): AK7
SB chk, BB chk, Villain chk, Hero CHECK

TURN (300): 7
SB chk, BB BET 140, Villain CALL, Hero CALL, SB fold.

RIVER (720): 8
BB chk, Villain BET 570, Hero....

Re: River Spot...

Looks like a call now. But am curious as to why Hero checked behind on the flop? Seems like a good board to bet our entire range.

Re: River Spot...

EZ fold, but yeah bet flop your hand isn't nearly strong enough to slow play 4 handed.

Re: River Spot...

i fold quickly. but i think betting the flop is much better.

with the right image u can bomb raise the river to rep kk/aa if u think the villain can fold 7x.

Great post, congrats.

My main interest in making this thread was to see how long it would take before someone brought up raising the river as one of our options. I was expecting everyone to mainly juggle between call or fold and then tell me how terrible it was not to bet flop. In the end it's surprising that it only took 5 responses.

For the flop play - I will usually bet there nearly all the time. However, I had a strong feeling I was ahead and with such a dry board wasn't sure if a guy will call with Kx or 7x after I bet into 4 people. I figured I'd chk and try to get value on later streets.

The 7 on the turn kills my kicker but I still over all thinking that folding there for one bet is too weak and that there is a good chance I still either have the best hand or I'm chopping.

Once BB chks river I know I have him beat 100% of the time, but once Villain bets so large (compared to turn bet, kind of a live tell imo) I think he has 7x a lot. Hence, I thought it was a raise or fold spot. I actually ended up raising to 1400... and got it through.

If you think he has 7x a lot, your raise is really horrible IMO bc he isn't gonna fold any 7 with the AK on board, he hasn't any kicker issues whatsoever even with a 76s hand.
So since it's hard for you to rep a full he can't fold a 7
But yeah im not gonna throw a stone at you, everybody has already made a play totally opposed to the perceived range of the opponent.

EDIT : i should stop reading hands in a hurry, didn't see you were the OR, so yeah you can decently rep AA or KK but still i doubt he is folding a 7 otr

Re: River Spot...

think he'd have to fold 7x nearly 100% of the time when u raise here to be profitable

Re: River Spot...

I think you need to make it a bit bigger otr if your plan is to make him fold a 7.

This. I do like the raise on the river line overall though.

Re: River Spot...

Raising that river is retard nation if you don't make it wayyyyy bigger IMO. If he folded a 7 I'd be absolutely astonished. Ah poo didn't see that was already posted. Sorry. Anyway I'd just call/fold depending on random live reads lol
