We don't know how "bad" the SB is. All we know is he's on a rollercoaster ride and has clawed his way back close to even. There are many ways for someone to go through a big swing within a given session, and without better clarification I'm not inclined to default that he's a total drooler, making exploitable plays, and being able to puppeteer my through hands with him. And even if he is, who's to say that limping --> calling(?) is our best course of action?
Obviously I could find scenarios in which I felt this was the optimal line at that moment. The info on the BTN and BB wasn't given tho, thus my inquiry of him needing to convince me this was the best line. I'm also not convinced with the argument of preferring to going 4 way for 1bb with 97o rather than 4way for 4bb (and thats worst case scenario in terms of investment/resistance). I think knowing stack sizes, reads on other [fictitious] opponents, and general in-game variables would be quite applicable in making this assessment.
