I believe its better to be prepared then to not be. Although I don't believe the world is going to be destroyed, I think people will be the ones that "blow up." People do desperate things in desperate times so I'll be prepared. "Trust people, just don't trust the devil inside of them."

Easy to carry a huge amount of wealth in gold on your person. One problem is there would likely be travel restrictions, in these extreme scenarios. Also, gold is considered a cash equivalent, and if you travel through an airport with over 10k worth of metal you are supposed to declare it.

As for guns, it seems like it's an American perspective to say get a gun. It most other places it's a much bigger deal. In Europe a crazy gun story to them is: "I used to own a gun"
