Dear all

I am deciding whether I should move up (in Macau casinos) to 5/10 , I heard that is where the biggest spewy players are and big callig stations, I also had a shot at this table (I short stacked 50BB and did some hero calls.. won)
I also observed some of the games - effectively there are spewy players.

just FYI ppls usually play 200 to 500bb deep at 5/10 (where 100bb in min buy in - I also heard good regs at 2/5 play 5/10)

Should I move? how?
- just move to 5-10 as if I am playing 2/5 - 100bb
- just go to 5-10 where I see good loose games
- short stack eg 60bb
- move in with 200bb
- not yet

If I move, when should I move down if it does not go well?

how much BR should I dedicate to try the limit? (ppls say 40buyin for live games to "play the limit" in the past)

Background profile
of course I need to introduce myself. Started playing in 2006 Live, started to win money between 2009-2011 - overall net winnings 32k$+8k$ bad beat jackpot =40k$?as of today (I would not consider it as my full bank roll - although I have those on my bank account I am not ready to lose all of them - maybe as investment just 10k$? or can i consider wider?

I started at 2/2 limit then moved to 2/4.

read all standard harrington books, also some on polarized concepts, omaha

Overall I play LAG on 2/5 - 1/2.5 (I realize that TAG style makes me more money and at 5/10 I shot with TAG play so far) usually at beginning of session I can be LAG then tighten up.

I did not play a lot between 2012 and 2016, lost 5k usd over those years

I am a winning live player and cannot adjust my play online as I play at lower stack online (as players are stronger - I would even say play is very different) NL50/NL100 short handed, i lose money because I just cant count the bets as BB but it s too low money vs the limit I usually play Live 2/5

also I m more patient in live games than online games.

eg: i am not pro but want to keep being a winning rec player.

today I am comfortable at playing 2/5 live and even if I swing at -3 buy in I can handle it psychologically.

When i play my A game I can fold 40 to a 530 pot OTT with overpair on no flush board but gutshot straight filled and 2 pairs- on a 3 way pot
When i play more than 5 hours I can be no good anymore.

of course for those who knows a little bit Macau.

I am planning to start at Wynn or Venetian , or any recommendations? it s public holidays those days- Should i expect some spewy mainland chinese around to beat those tables?
of course any advices is welcome.

ran around wynn today the game sounds soft at 5/10 unlike venetian? sounds more TAG in Wynn and LAG in Venetian?

Alsi,

so your moving up to 50/100 hkd?

I think you should take a shot if you see a good game. There's NOTHING to say you cant play both stakes.

I play 5/10 when i see enough players at the table i owned at lower stakes.

thanks
for this first shot, I lost 80bb at 2/5 - bad cards and 2 bad hands , then I went to another casino (because they called - as i queued 3 hours ago) playing 5/10 with 60bb, end up + 120 bb after 7 hours
(planned actually to play with 200bb budget that night except if I loss all 200 to suck out and table is "exceptional")

even easier to play because:

- I move from LAG to TAG style (especially half of players are just waiting for the big asian ATM , no need to put myself in awkward situation )
- no problem with that as players do more hand selection: less familly limped pot and always one or 2 person punish the limpers

i was lucky at this shot: 3 awkward players and 2 weak players at the table.
I barely hit medium atrength hands: either miss flop/turn and I did not 3 barrels, either I hit it big (even once i did horrible decision to call 150 preflop on 3bet with 820 stack effective myself - with JQs, got lucky and hit big JQ OTF no pain)

Actually the game is soft - not much levelling and a Group of nordics just chinese tourists fishing

You will probably do fine because it seems you are trying 10x harder than the average 5-10 player. You will probably get good at poker because of this as well. From quickly scanning your threads it appears you both have a lot to learn and the drive to do it. How long can you keep it up though before the inevitable burnout?

thanks for the cheer up.

Dont know when I burn out - I dont need that money for living but I do count every 10 dollars, let s see. - But I do do some burn out move - like 2 spewy line per night for some temporary discipline loss or over levelling myself ..
(but at this moment I have a stop loss of 200bb per night if necessary - so 3 no full buy in or 2 100bb buy in)

actually + 225 bb so +2 buy in at moment(first night + 160 and yesterday + 65 , i misdeduced the -80bb i did at 2/5 due to a stupid LAG game with stupid moves)

at 5/10 I do avoid some spewy steals i am doing at 2/5

rec

end up the 3 sessions grinding at only +70bb (so over all only +30bb as i lost 80bb at 2/5)

maybe one hand bad played -60bb but had 2 hands huge bad beats so I am happy to end up positive after 3 sessions beside the 2 huge bad beats.

to share:

KJo in BB.

fish opens at 300hkd blind in MP, 3 callers, I squeeze BB at 1500hkd,
fish calls, ffold fold,

flop (i had only 4500 hkd). JT9, i go all in with 3000hkd, he calls
turn 8 (ok board gets uglier)
river T

he shows ATs.

REBUY!!

next hand i was rebuying

so i came back the hand after "buying btn" (paying bb+sb) , Angry face.

MP from hand before raise to 200hkd, called once, CO 3bet to 400hkd ,(not really isolating so I dont read him on high PP or would be really tricky play), btn cold calls 400hkd

i open AKo, put my tilt angry face on - All in 8000hkd (to level the previous hand image 3bet light ) - fold fold to CO who tank call (YES I leveled him to a call !)

we open cards , he has AQo (YES!)

flop KJ3 turn K (YES!) River T of course (NOOOOOOO!)

Rebuy 100bb!!
up to 200bb then did an huge mistake with KK costing me approx 56bb (the hand cost 56bb but mistake cost 39bb... should not have called turn tho.. still wondering whether I got bluffed but he played it well)

so end up the session -115bb which I judge as correct with 2 All in 75-25/80-20 OTF and preflop bad beats

realize that 5/10 live is really soft - some easy Rec, or some Reg who can make some play sometimes but not always following the 3 street story telling consistence (like most of us do this kind of mistake)
Online foreigner Pros maybe used to play NL200/400 online, it is soft at my games because as there are plenty of calling stations - the foreigners do not make huge plays .

I think tougher Pros are at 300/600hkd or at least 100/200. the 50/100 game is better than then 25/50 hkd imo (where I get bored sometimes at some full limpers table with no one punishing : i m not dare to punish calling stations that cost me 3 streets with showdown ...)

Ppls might say it is a bad play but I like to be one of the limpers from LP with any "nuts potential hands" (sc or Q high suited hands) because U can get the stack in even with familly pot

If you were to just play for fun and wouldn't care about losing a large chunk of your roll then sure go for it.
Otherwise judging from the info you provided in the OP:

These are red flags imo. Poker evolved a ton during the last years and you should prob play lower limits and get in more volume first.

i have a discipline problem. eg low poket pair I can fold sometimes in 5/10 OOP HU or even 3 ways if HU 100bb deep (22-66), but in lower limit because of the facial value of the initial raiser s raise (eg 3usd) i just call any pocket even HU OOP

i dont feel the money enough at NL50/100 (i have a decent salary) and it s so meaningless to me eg 20/30usd so I become calling station with stupid hands

The Rake in those games is capped at 200hkd right?
Moving up to 5/10 Live - Should I?/ Am I ready? Quote

yes capped at 200hkd

I want to play at another one which has higher cap eg 500hkd with more fish and recs (pros do not like high rakes)

usually half table pro

some regs i can beat and one fish that we are all waiting for his stack...

played 8 sessions so far +500bb

I lost 2 75/25 for total 140bb
no big suck out done by me
some missed value maybe missed total 100bb
called behind maybe lost 100bb
some bad barrels maybe lost 260bb overall

never did any 2/3 outters to anyone

one session I went spewy almost lost whole buyin but spewyed it at break even then played seriously and end up winning 170bb still

biggest swing: lost 3 buy in and got 1 back
biggest wins: +170bb

Seriously considering to play the 500hkd rake cap game because too many pros at this one
