This is my first attempt at real estate investing outside of my own homes. It is really a vacation rental but will be kept up so nice by my wife that staying there when we can't rent it will be very awesome. As I consider you guys friends, there will be a friends and family discount so if you want to bring your sig other for a vacation, let me know. Well, the initial investment is going very well. In fact, we have decided to double down. The unit next door came up for sale and I thought having 2x the space and an even nicer property would be awesome. Then there was the issue about getting the money. Had a loan all lined up but then there was a technicality and the loan fell through. I will get another one but it will take a while and the seller wanted to close by year end. So, long story short I raised 525k in a week privately to buy the thing in cash. It turns out you learn a lot about your friends and family when you ask for 6 figure loans. These are basically bridge loans until I get my refinance done and pay everyone back. Pulled it off though so ship ship.

Bad news is I have the most severe headache I have ever had. I even went in for a CT scan today. I was supposed to work today and I ended up sending my wife in since there is no way I can function with this kind of pain. I don't think that even a hudbot like me should be playing poker on percocet, tegretol, prednisone, zofran, and whatever else I can find in my cabinet. Luckily, now I have a show I can binge on for as long as it takes to get better. So, thanks for the rec.

ono! Hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

A couple of years ago I was on a course of percocet etc. after a surgery, and I ended up owning a Saab convertible that was located on the wrong coast. Don't play poker while mixing alcohol and narcotics, but don't surf eBay either.

p.s. the car's doing great. I drove it to work today.

The scan was negative but the pain is only marginally better. Trying to get an appointment with a specialist for me is pretty tough and 1/2 my cell phone contacts are doctors. I can only imagine how hard it is for the rest of you. They keep saying things like a week from Friday. I am like I won't need an appointment with anyone other than a mortician if I still have this a week from Friday.

Sounds ugly - sorry to hear it. No one has any ideas what's causing the pain?

Hope they/you figure out something that works soon.

I definitly hear you about specialist appointments - my wife developed vertigo a few months ago and it was nearly a month before she could see a neurologist. And we have "cadillac" insurance - just all their schedules are booked.

The pattern of pain is basically classic for occipital neuralgia. Burning, stabbing, unilateral, intermittent pain. However, I had the nerve block and it didn't solve the problem. So now we don't know WTF it is or what to do about it. It is very hard since I have a life and driving kids and working on pain meds isn't really a possibility. I am not a particularly patient person either so the wait and see approach after 6 days of torture isn't sitting well.

As far as their schedules go, there is a ton of professional courtesy. If another doctor calls me I will drop whatever I am doing (within reason obv) and talk to them and bring them in and examine them in the lounge or do whatever I can to help them. Making another doctor wait a week to get an appointment is just downright filthy.

Superb use of irony in the phrase "not a patient person"
Spoiler:

I hope they figure out what it is. My mom had severe migraines for years and she'd get about 5 sentences in with a doc before they auto-prescribed pain meds and sent her on her way.

Re: MHFR Low-Content Thread

neuro problems can be incredibly frustrating - in my wife's case we've been through all the hoops - two EENTs, two neurologists, two different MRIs, Cat Scan, EEG, etc. Good news is they've ruled out major physical issues like tumors, stroke, vascular blockages/twisting, etc. Bad news is we are left with the "diagnosis" of vestibular neuritis, which as far as I can tell is a catchall for "who knows? None of the common treatments such as meclizine, diazepam, vestibular therapy, etc. have really made much difference. Fortunately she's able to function, balance is coming back ok, and the nystagmus has calmed down enough she can drive ok. So could always be worse.

Surf doc, I feel for you. I hope you and your colleagues find something that works to relieve the pain, and soon.

Yeah I almost typed "patient patient."

As far as the migraine thing I can tell you that it is sometimes tough to deal with chronic illness and focus on it as if it is fresh and acute. It is hard when your thought process is "ok so let me get this straight, you have had this for 5 years and seen multiple neurologists, pain specialists, had 3 negative MRIs, 5 negative CT scans, had a 4 day admission to Cedars last month, been treated with triptans, narcotics, beta blockers, nerve stimulator, botox, antidepressants, and narcotics?" ..."yes that is correct." At this point saying "ok lets start fresh, where is the pain located" just seems silly and presumptuous like somehow I am better than the last 20 doctors who saw this patient. That is when things get real brief and the goal becomes symptom management.

My situation is very different and the kind of thing that just about all doctors get interested in. "WTF you have never had anything like this and now all of a sudden you have something for 6 days that keeps you out of work, surf, and all things you enjoy in one fell swoop. You took 5 percocet in one day and your total number for the last 20 years combined was 3 even after 2 orthopedic surgical procedures. Hmmmm"

Re: MHFR Low-Content Thread

Optimal powerball strategies itt?

I know choosing the random number option is a fish move but it's been so long since I've been in the game I don't remember much beyond that. My mom and I had some really solid strat back in the day, should have written that stuff down.

Also I've never played at these stakes before so I'm probably scared money.

I think this thread needs way more contributions about things to watch. I mean what if I never started watching this show randomly?

Anyone watched "The End of The Tour" movie yet? I've been meaning to check it out.

Go!

The documentary was extremely well made and extremely biased so keep that in mind. It pretty much only showed one side to the story and painted the prosecutors as villains. For example the sexting scandal of the prosecutor was irrelevant imo and pales in comparison to the character/ethical issues of steven avery, much of which was glossed over or left out of documentary completely (dousing a cat in oil and throwing it in bonfire), as well as that of the avery family (all the brothers had sexual assault charges including one against his own children)

Given the range of possibilities I'd agree it is good news - are you doing steroids or a combo of steroids/antiviral? In any case hope it resolves fairly quickly.

Miami, I'm in a big pool at work so it's pretty much a lock we win and then proceed to engage in a 20 year lawsuit.

Buying some myself tmrw but want to remember mom's strat before I commit. So stuff like, do you go with number 7 (as its obviously the luckiest number), or do you avoid it because it's one of the most included numbers in people's picks (so if it hits w/#7 you have more chance of chopping).

This is obv level 1 strat but still good things to keep in mind when making your picks.

I'm going with 9 as well, but waiting until tomorrow (the 9th) to buy 9 tickets. And I'll sit in the 9 seat tomorrow at Talking Stick. Got to maximize the positive force right? I guess if you can't lose we'll have to split it.

I also recommend 1 ticket per combo so you don't contaminate your other combos with the unlucky ones

Only an amateur would buy 5 on one slip

Also jrr- you would need 729 tickets based on your strat if you want to win

9^3

Damn, I forgot that part of the equation - I'll have to start early to find 729 places to buy single tickets.
