Solid post. Not sure I'll be in LA any time soon... I just finished Bloodline. Def an interesting show. It says a lot about the writing/directing if I can make it through 13 episodes without liking any of the characters. I mean no one is a good person, funny, or even good at anything lol. I guess the whole "if kids aren't raised well there's a very good chance they will become ****ty adults" theme is strong/true enough to carry the show. Lowry grinds limit or stud at CC, been a fan of his since 24...

Anyone done Scandal or Peaky Blinders? I need another show.

Blinders is an instant classic. I'm not too in tune w/ new shows but peakey blinders is on its own level and must see tv

I can't remember what you have seen but I would have a look at True Detective if you haven't already.

Is this Vegas dinner thingy still on for June? I recall the 16th being the tentative date. Old guys like me with jobs and family need to make plans so I was hoping we can firm it up. I think the 16th would be a fine date.

I put up a post a couple of weeks ago asking whether the 16th, 17th or 18th would be preferable, and asking who was interested. No responses yet Although did get one PM from a 2+2er saying he's in.

Both DGAF and I are fine with just saying it's the 16th. I'll bump that post and ask again, saying 16th is the date.

This was one of the better movies I have seen for a while. Jake was brilliant.

Update on MHFR meetup

It now seems that June 16th will not work for one of the regular attendees - we are trying to look at June 17 or 18th.

I'll update the "meetup" thread when date is confirmed.

I would prefer we do the 16th or the 18th and that the decision be made pretty soon. I have some non poker friends coming in and I need to tell them which days to come. If the dinner is the 17th I am almost certainly out.

The 18th works for me, but I'm checking via PM with the others who have expressed interest. Hopefully settled within the next day or two latest.

scenario:

You've been playing at a local casino recently that typically only gets a 1500 buyin game going as their biggest game most days. However, with your insanely spazzy play/behavior + blasting the board girls and floor men with tips you've been able to get a bigger game going almost every time you've shown up (getting bigger games than normal to run is incredibly valuable- for a few reasons). But you know it's all pretty fragile/smoke and mirrors...

One of the recs who will consistently start a bigger game so far isn't terrible by any stretch, but he will battle with you in a very friendly, competitive way and you do not want to F that up (you love battling and you like your side). It turns out this guy is also salt of the earth (at least relatively speaking) and last time you played with him baseball came up and you mentioned that you wanted to take your kid to a game soon. He offered to get you 2 really good tickets for free (~$300 value total if I had to guess, maybe way more if he's super baller). He told you to look at the schedule and let him know next time you play what game you are targeting...

Do you take him up on his offer? Or do you avoid the friend/favor zone and buy them on stub hub or whatever instead?

(keep in mind you play v v hard- too hard probably- against him and pretty much everyone else)

thx

Spoiler:
I'm leaning stub hub

Take him up on it and get him a nice bottle of wine/whiskey or box of cigars in exchange for them.

I like it! So much better than feeling gross/possibly rubbing him the wrong way for shipping every single time he can't call.

will taking him up on the offer alter the ability to start this bigger game in the future (friendly nature might come up he not wanting to possibly play bigger or at least be less inclined to start the bigger game w/ you but won't mind playing in it once its already started)? the potential non-ability to start this big game in a casino that rarely gets big games is the most important factor in your decision i think.

this is kinda tricky I've seen guys like this literally change the way they play vs regs once they have this type of friendly nature. I'm friendly/very competitive w/ a lot of rich rec guys but still play hard vs them and they play hard vs me. however I've only done something similar to what you are considering to one of these guys. it was a very small favor he did for me but ever since then he has stopped playing hard vs me and i sense that he wants to play less hands vs me when at the same table.

in other words, i wouldn't want you to give this guy the chance to ever start soft playing you if by taking up his offer means that the bigger game is less likely to ever run (as he doesn't seem to mind at least starting the game w/ you right now).

To me it depends on the guy - I used to play in a regular game with one of the richest guys in Northern NM and we played very hard against each other. We also played golf and gin for fairly serious stakes, and no slowplaying in any of the games. But we also became friends, traded buying lunch, went to WSOP at the same time, etc. He always had comped seats to big fights in Vegas - I took a trip with him to one of them and a free ticket but it did not change our dynamic in games against each other. Hard to say whether your guy would be the same.

Might be safer to pay for your own tickets, but you don't want to insult him by turning down the offer. Randal's quid pro quo suggestion has some merit.

That's ok looks like you found yourself a nice lil juice whale in lsdeeee .

Also, I think money will keep coming in on Pac Man until right before the fight anyways. Obv given that this is sports betting tho there's a pretty huge chance I'll be dead wrong on that.

Spoiler:
I mushed the Rockies, Bucks and Warriors yesterday, a nice lil 0/3 betting for the first time since super bowl .
