Glad to hear you are doing better surf doc.

Mini TR

So I'm in Detroit on business, did the auto show yesterday that was actually really cool. I also had no idea of the genetics up here but seriously almost every woman I've seen is mid twenties and at least a 6/10. And they are everywhere. I mean wow Midwestern girls.

Checked out Motor City last night as its apparently the biggest room (only 18 tables). One huge 5/10 plo going, two 2/5 plos (which I played) and a few NL 2/5s. Some of the NL 2/5s were playing pretty big but they said they don't get 5/10 going anymore since plo had taken over last year.

It was neat to play in a different place (I've never played outside of FL) but it made me sad to see that poker isn't crazy everywhere. In the Detroit metro area there were a total of like 25 tables going last night, I checked SFla bravo there were over 100. Just made me realize how lucky I am in Fl.

The room was also really smoky which made it hard to play. I mean, really bad. They did have a free snack bar though that was cool.

They had HUGE waitlists, I'm talking 30-40 people deep. So it's not like poker isn't in demand up here, just not supplied??

People seemed friendly enough and action was great, if I knew how to play PLO I might have made some money. I finished up $7 which is pretty solid considering I was texting my SFla friend (PLO pro) how to peel back 4 cards at one time to look at them. That sh*ts hard.

Got invited to a charity poker room regular 1/3 PLO game which I was told played bigger than the game we were playing (which was playing purty big). I'm not sure on the whole sitting with thousands of dollars in some bar in Detroit though. That seems so weird to me but they (charity rooms) seem to be the norm up here?

Working pretty hard next week but if I go I'll update.

I loved birdman. I haven't heard anyone say anything other than love or hate. Extremely polarizing.

Started Fargo last night. 3 episodes in and really good.

Would rec to anyone still late to the party.

Also don't recall if I mentioned it before but really enjoying Rocket Jump. Very cool show on Hulu about a small company that makes shorts.

*Must be a little geeky to enjoy.

Ava: Not exactly fallen from world-known to not known but Glengarry Glen Ross is fantastic for watching a fallen character.

If anyone needs a show for family time TV watching I suggest "The Artful Detective" - it's currently in season 9 on Saturday afternoon on Ovation network.

Show is basically about a Canadian "sherlock holmes-like" detective in Toronto around the turn of the 20th century. Characters are all well developed, wrting and acting is good, sometimes very humorous in an understated sort of way. Each episode presents an "English style" murder mystery, and it usually brings in a twist introducing new technologies (for the time) that are now commonplace, critical to solving the mystery.

Story arc illustrates some of the major political themes of the time (focus on the womens sufferage movement recurs), Episodes often feature "guest stars" playing famous people of the day (e.g. Nicholas Tesla and Charles Edison in one) who are integral to that episode's plot. This coming week it's to be William Shatner (Captain Kirk) playing Mark Twain.

This is not a show I would typically gravitate towards, but my wife started watching it a couple of years ago - i thought the premise sounded a bit silly and now I'm hooked. It's not shown at the best time of the week for me, since Saturday afternoon is often poker time (when there is a decent game). But the episodes are also available on the web, including past seasons for anyone who gets interested.

I have watched exactly one episode of "Billionaire" on showtime and suspect that this series will be purely awesome.

And I think I fall into the no go camp with respect to Birdman. Too slow for me. I guess I should stick with it but 30 minutes in and my wife and I were bored.

Fortunately she's able to function, balance is coming back ok, and the nystagmus has calmed down enough she can drive ok. So could always be worse.

Surf doc, I feel for you. I hope you and your colleagues find something that works to relieve the pain, and soon.
dang, hope she recovers.

Who knows? Last year there were two trips for me. The Colosta**** had the best games in the history of the city and one during the 1/1 week had the absolute worst.

I hate to admit in light of all the awards, but like surf doc I couldn't get into Birdman - I've tried twice and wandered off to other things both times. I guess I need to dedicate some time to it since most give it rave notices.

Just finished S1 of Fargo and thought it was really good.

Can't wait until they add S2 to hulu.

I don't watch a ton of live tv so I cancelled my cable after they doubled the bill in month 13.

When I called they lowered my rate (just Internet) by $5 per month and added HBO plus 10 basic channels.

Fx isn't one of them.

Hard to justify cable when I work everyday from 730-630+ and just want to sleep when I get home.

I coulda sworn people told me Better Call Saul was good/in the same general neighborhood as Breaking Bad. I'm 1.5 episodes in and it seems like lazy spew. Keep going, or no?

Didn't get much better iirc. Definitely nowhere near Breaking Bad.

BCS is pretty funny and Saul was basically comic relief on BB.

I think BCS is very good. The Breaking Bad characters had more linear arcs/storyline but of course that's impossible for Saul. I'd say give it a few more episodes. I bet if BCS had come before BB people would be saying oh what interesting stories, well developed characters, etc.

I really enjoyed it.

Very different show, not on breaking bad level but still very good.

Takes some time to build the character development.

Just started Sense8 (netflix) and 11.22.63 (hulu).

Both seem like they are worth sticking with so far.
