just bet someone that there's never been an MLB total under 5. Has there ever been a 4.5 total? That'd be ****ed.

What do you mean by MLB total under 5? Surely not total runs in a game.

yes. 5 total runs in a game. 5.5 tonight for the LAD/SF game which sparked the argument. He's off and owes unless he comes up with something that I can't even imagine. Not like he has a pinny screen shot from a game in 1934 or whatever.

the 5.5 tonight was -110 fwiw

Well they did not cover 5.5 in the LA/SF game tonight but there are surely plenty of games played in MLB with less than 5 runs total. We are 16 days into the season and on only 3 of those days were there no games in which there were less than 5 total runs scored. So the way I read the bet in your post you lost it. I must have missed something.

I think his bet is that the line has never been set below 5.

Yes and the onus is on him to prove it. No idea how he thinks he can prove it easily but we're friends so if he somehow shows me some history of baseball book or w/e that references some Koufax v Gibson game that was 4.5 or w/e I'll pay but I'd say he's drawing dead

"This was to have been the fourth time Gibson started against Koufax in their careers. Koufax had won two of the previous three matchups, both by 1-0 scores." he's not drawing dead, damn

I have two floor seats for the Grateful Dead concert Saturday and Sunday night at Soldier Field. Anyone know a good way to sell these things? I tried Craigslist but I get 100s of emails of offers for face value. Stubhub takes 15%.

Surprised nobody could come up with the "miraculous thinking fish" quote from the other thread.

This was FoxwoodsFiend in one of his DC videos. He was clearly one of the best video makers of all time.

Another favorite was line was in a session where he is coaching a kid and a full ring table got dragged into view. FWF was like "how many players are at this table" and student responds with "nine" and FWF just pauses and says "of dear god." Then he posts his BB and some tight player raises UTG and it folds to him in the BB and he says, "Okay so what I am going to do here is wait here for the tightest player in the game to raise it stone cold UTG... and then when it swings around to me in the big blind I will THREE BET..... and take down those 3 big blinds."

For some reason that just still makes me laugh and whenever I am in the BB and a friend is watching I can't help it and have to say "okay so what I what I am going to do here.."

DGAF and Surf Doc - thanks for the link to those videos. Since I'm kind of stuck in spread limit wasteland most of the time I've been thinking I need to review some expert videos before the WSOP this year, and this saves me the money I would have wasted on one of the training sites.

While both tuff fish and Water Boat both present a lot of valuable information, I find that Water Boat offers more thoughtful situation analysis during his hands and a better glimpse into how an expert thinks through hands.

I plan to use many of these tips in our drinking game after Nobu.

Haha, let's get some people to commit so we have a full game.

Really enjoyed the water boat videos especially the Plo one, but I think the nlhu was the best. Really wish I could play online now to employ the twilight zone strategy.

But you know it's all pretty fragile/smoke and mirrors...

One of the recs who will consistently start a bigger game so far isn't terrible by any stretch, but he will battle with you in a very friendly, competitive way and you do not want to F that up (you love battling and you like your side). It turns out this guy is also salt of the earth (at least relatively speaking) and last time you played with him baseball came up and you mentioned that you wanted to take your kid to a game soon. He offered to get you 2 really good tickets for free (~$300 value total if I had to guess, maybe way more if he's super baller). He told you to look at the schedule and let him know next time you play what game you are targeting...

Do you take him up on his offer? Or do you avoid the friend/favor zone and buy them on stub hub or whatever instead?

(keep in mind you play v v hard- too hard probably- against him and pretty much everyone else)

thx

Spoiler:
I'm leaning stub hub
Speaking as a rec player who plays with other rec players who are all friends of mine and match your description, I would say that you won't see a drop in action. You might even see more action.

For instance, when we play each other we are much more willing to go to war. But the less we know someone, the more calculated we become. I see it whenever we go to casinos together, we'll sit at a table, and the other players will scratch their heads watching us blow up the pot trying to beat one another.

We (rec players) also don't really have a reason to soft play. We look at the game as a game, like a sport (is it a sport?). I couldn't imagine soft playing someone in basketball or monopoly, so why poker? It's not like (most of us) will have a change in lifestyle if we win or lose. We will have less fun if we soft play.

My suggestion is to take him up on his offer. Use this as a chance to build a friendship for real. I guarantee he makes friends in his business. And it could pay off for you like any other friendship in business. And follow other post advice about giving him something nice in return as a gesture (he won't expect anything of equal value- but would appreciate a bottle and a genuine thank you).

I enjoy my relationships with poker pros because I can talk real strategy with them, which I can't do with my other friends. And the pros I know the
best, get the most action from me, ainec.

Interesting. Thanks for the rec perspective. Do you think your outlook on this stuff is common among recs these days? I mean, my experience is that after a while/some bonding or whatever people (recs and pros alike) generally expect to not be attacked every single hand. Or maybe it's on my end where once I connect on a personal level with someone I can't really go full throttle anymore...

+1 (again) to buying him a bottle or something to essentially clear the favor before we compete on the felt again.

No- poker is definitely not a sport.

Very common. The only recs I know who would want/expect soft play are super tight and omc types - who aren't good for your games anyways.

Today was a pretty huge day. For as long as I could remember, I always wanted an ocean front property. This is a pretty common dream for the surfer. I love the ocean, seeing it, breathing it in, and paddling into it. We finally got to a place where this became a reality and today the owner of this ocean front condo agreed to sell it to us after a bit of negotiating. This is my first attempt at real estate investing outside of my own homes. It is really a vacation rental but will be kept up so nice by my wife that staying there when we can't rent it will be very awesome. As I consider you guys friends, there will be a friends and family discount so if you want to bring your sig other for a vacation, let me know. I will likely accept bitcoin as well so get your grind on!

pics or it didn't happen.

Not sure why the image thing won't post but here is the link.

Ty.

Solana

Not sure yet. Kinda depends on how successful and at what rate it rents in general. I will PM you the listing.

In other news, I heard of potentially sick investment. It will cost about 1.5-2M but has been valued in the 6-9M range. Anyone interested PM me and I will share details. Maybe someone like BrownKeeper will swing by here and infuse some life into this.
