Re: 5/5 nl deep

Upon further considering I think this is a fold on the river. $1000 is a big bet in live poker and he isn't thinking it's small relative to the pot. Folding the turn is crazy though.

Re: 5/5 nl deep

When I first transitioned to live from online, I would call here quite a bit but now, for me, this is a fold on the river against this kind of live opponent. Most live players think of money in terms of absolute value and not relative size to the pot. Despite appearing weak, in most 5/5NL games, this is a big bet.

I don't think it's close, and frankly I'm a little shocked by the chorus of "call" comments.

The advice on these boards has always been susceptible to groupthink.

Re: 5/5 nl deep

I think the move is to check back the flop.

You're in very dangerous territory here when you get check-raised, especially deep. You're doing terrible against his check raising range and not that good against his calling range either. You have reverse implied odds problems galore, not to mention the possibility of the board pairing. You can be dead already and you can't really play your flush with any clarity whatsoever. So you'll end up getting in the situation you're in. Don't feel like you have to bet in this situation just because your hand seems so strong. It's not really.

The only card you don't want to let draw is the ace of spades. You're still only getting two streets of value from qq and jj, so might as well make them the turn and river. And if they also hit their flush with those hands, you're in good shape to take value and make sets pay to draw. Plus, you can safely fold if your turn bet is raised.

much better option IMO.

As played, turn is a fold for sure. And river couldn't be a clearer fold. You're beating nothing except air and air is not betting 1 grand into 3.
