Playing in a private 5-5 NLH game in NYC, buyin 1K. Mix of recreational players - some very solid - that typically see this as a small game.

The villain, we'll call him Bob, is a very laggy action player - likes to make it 100 PF with any two cards when he gets bored. He's been bored for about 2 hours.

Bob likes to use his disregard for money to his advantage so he has no problem making large overbets with nothing on any street. There's always a lot of action with Bob at the table, and tonight has been no different.

My image is pretty tight/conservative. (Something I am perfectly fine with as a recreational player!)

At the start of this hand, I have 3.5K in chips and Bob has over 6K.

Hand:

Button (Mississippi) straddles for 15, blinds fold, Bob calls in early position, Mike calls in mid position, I make it 100 in cutoff with TdTh.

Button cold-calls, Bob and Mike both call. Pot 410.

Flop is Ts9c8s. Checked to me, I bet 300, button folds, Steve and Mike call. Pot is 1310. I have 3100 behind.

Turn is 5h. Bob and Mike check.

I bet 700 and Bob check-raises all-in. Mike folds after a minute so likely had a draw. Pot is $5,110.

Given I have $2,400 behind, I have a set, and this is Bob, I feel this is an automatic call. I am actually looking for input on my turn bet, which pretty much guarantees I have to call an all-in. Is it better to check in this situation and give draws a chance to catch up, or is this an automatic bet?

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

I'm very far from excited but I don't think you can fold vs the described player.

You only have to be good 20-25% of the time. Against the described play I think you've got at least that. Would he always raise 88/99 pf? If not even more impetus to call.

You cant just check back top set on the turn, no way. Some of the time you are coolered but he will call with all types of two pairs, sets, straight and flush draw combos.

Curious: what do you think his check-call flop, check raise all in on the turn range is here specifically?

Bet more ott - pretty much snap. It's certainly a sweat when Bob is in 'crack aces mode' and hands like J7o and 53ss are likely in his gii range, but you also benefit from having a good chunk of it is drawing dead/near dead.

I actually would consider betting more on the Flop in an effort to gii on the Turn easier and perhaps get Mike to exit here rather than on the Turn. I also assume that in a home game that you would be considering RIT here and I would rather have 2 cards to come for each board, but that's just me.

This is the type of board where they are either going to call ... or not ... and the size of the bet probably doesn't matter.

AP ... You did reduce your bet to pot ratio for some reason when a blank came out. Depending on the ability of the players this could show weakness on your part and also makes it more difficult to 'force' Bob to call on the River with weaker holdings.

I want to be at least 900 or so, allowing my River bet to be 2/3 pot-ish.

AP ... Pretty much calling it off here and RIT if allowed in case Bob/Steve hits or is already ahead. GL

i think we can all agree that you should run it as many as eight or even nine times against this player if it is allowed

Thanks everyone.

No questions re calling on the turn - RosaParks summed up how I felt - though I see betting more on the flop and/or turn would make that decision even clearer - thanks Answer20.

Massive, I think he has mostly draws here (66, 77, 78, 79, 7T, J9, JT, KJ, and any two spades). I discounted made straights and sets a little since he just called the flop with the flush draw on board. He puts me mostly on overpairs or AKs and probably feels I am rarely strong enough to call the turn bet. And if I do he has outs.

As it turned out, he had 76o and we ran it twice. He scooped and I went home early and got an extra hour of sleep
