5-5 Game...big decision on river.... 5-5 Game...big decision on river....

Ok, this is a weekly game. V is a good player...capable of getting out of line sometimes. He's a winning player...hes not loose and not tight...in the middle..Hes willing to mix it up.I have a tight reputation but def am capable of getting out of line but I dont think he thinks Im getting out of line against him. This was a full ring game that had died down so we are now 5 handed. Theres a 25 button straddle.
V(5.5k) raises UTG(which is also the small blind) to $125. I (7k) flat in the big blind with 10h9h and the straddler comes along.
Flop Qd,Jc,8h.
V bets $250, I raise it to $650. Button folds. V calls quickly.
turn Ks. V checks, I bet $1100. He calls pretty quickly.
River Kc. He shoves INSTANTLY for 3ish, a little more. I feel sick about this spot.
Thoughts?

Do you really think he's bluffing here?

We block his most likely bluff anyway

No, I dont think hes bluffing here.. i mucked face up as fast as he went all in and he showed after pretending he was bluffing to try and tilt me more. If river blanks Im shoving and he's calling. He had QQ

I hate button straddles. I think I fold or 3bet pre unless the game is really passive. Also, if the $25 straddle isn't a normal thing then call becomes much better because people tend to treat $125 as $125 instead of 5bb.

Raise bigger on the flop, like $850-$950 range. You're basically isoing his range to 2pair, sets, overpairs, straights and maybe KQ/AQ so why not raise big? Calling flop is another option.

I like turn.

River is an easy fold. We have the worst value hand in our range because we check QJ on the turn and he's unlikely to be bluffing.

^ He means insta shoving. A 3k river insta ship at a 5/5 game... hmm I wonder what he could have?

I think the sizing is bad too, seems like vs a competent villain he's gonna get nothing but folds

Like im folding with JJ too

I'm not sure this is a good idea... any villain who's not strong enough to call a flop-raise is pretty unlikely to fire a turn bet.

You're giving up a raise + future larger bets against a strong villain, but getting nothing much extra from a weak villain.
