Playing a 2/3/5 NL game the other night with a $500 effective stacks in the hand. The table is your average weak game with a lot of limping and very little if any 3-betting, funny enough though this hand involves a 3-bet.
Hero: $500
Villain: covers
Villain is UTG and straddles to $10. Folds to be in the CO and I raise to $30 with AQhh. It folds around to UTG who then 3-bets to $70 and I call. This caught me by surprise as there has been very little 3-betting at this table so far but FWIW villain is somewhat new to the table. I believe I have seen this playing before in the past but I have no reads on him as I don't play at this casino very often. I don't think he is a completely clueless though. Any merit in 4-betting folding?
Flop (~$150): AKx with 1 heart.
Villain leads for $75 and I call. I don't think there is much of anything else to do at this point.
Turn (~$300): x (puts a possible black flushdraw on board)
Villain leads for $175 and hero with about $350 remaining....
I think it's OK to fold here on the turn as I just don't see this type of aggression coming from these players at these limits. Still feels a bit weak to fold but I am not entirely sure as it's been awhile for me playing NL. Thoughts?
Turn kinda sucks. He saying he has exactly AA, AK, or KK.
I'm stubborn and calling, as we have an ace blocker and the random 2/5 guy could be spazzing (bluffing, value betting a worse ace, or stubborn with QQ, JJ, TT barreling.
I would station this. he could be doing this with AQ/AJ/maybe ATs? I think his range is definitely wider then just AA/KK/AK because he straddled and can be getting out of line
I agree with calling the preflop raise and the flop lead.
Now I think it's a pretty clear fold on the turn. He is almost never value betting anything you beat, so pretty much you are ahead of bluffs only, and he can't have too many bluffs after 3 betting you small OOP, and leading two streets in a row.
It's actually really nice to be able to exploitatively fold hands like this. Villains at these levels will often completely give away the strength of their hand. A small 3 bet preflop OOP is the nuts. You commonly see the 'min raise' from these types of players where you make it 30 preflop and they make it 60. Just assume they have QQ+, AK, and go from there.
