+1, not Russian, but spent 2 years in Russia teaching English and married a Russian woman, would love to see the game become popular in Russia if for no other reason than playing Chess with you guys is old news

What is the "Russian Style" of poker, something tells me it has to do with being patient, waiting for an opponent's mistakes and then capitalizing on them in a meticulous fashion, because that's all Russians seem to do in any sport.

@BP30

Yup, I'm in Hoboken.

Hello. I'm Russian and I always lived in Russia. Poker has recently been admitted as professional sports in our country and it grows more and more popular, especially online. But poker players usually face some difficulties in proving that poker is not only a game but the way of living, that it can earn you a lot of money. People just don't take it seriously. They can't imagine that poker can be a professional occupation. I think the matter is that gambling in Russia is taken very negatively. Hopefully it'll change in future but now the problem is actual.

As for russians in poker, I didn't notice some special style of play. But I can assure that most play very decently. They learn fast and are good opponents.

From what I've read, I think there is a bit of a stereotype that says Russians are very very loose agressive.

I was reading one thread here on 2+2 somewhere, and someone was talking about watching some poker training video or something. Apparently the guy in the video was faced with a big bet or raise and was thinking about folding, he decided to see where his opponent was from and he said "oh he's from Russia, I call'' and won the pot because his Russian oponnent was bluffing.

most of the russian players personally I know are TAGs

I think the only effective stereotype is that a lot of germans are luckbox donks haha
