In task manager you need to use the Processes tab (not the Applications tab) to search for PokerTracker.exe and end it.

I get the same error. Ending it from task manager doesn't help neither does rebooting my computer. Yesterday it worked fine but suddenly when i tried it today it didn't work. I run windows xp. The start screen where it says something like "poker tracker 3 for holdem" doesn't appear. When i tried to stop and then start postgres service again (something i have to do every time to get pt3 running) the window says: "The PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3 service is starting............................" but nothing happens. Only more dots come. Kinda strange. It has never done that before. Thanks for the help!

Please click Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools, open the Event Viewer and look in the Application folder. Do you see any errors for postgres on the right side? If so, double click on them and tell me what they say as that will explain things.

no. there's no errors for postgres. Everything seems to work fine there. My f-secure updated itself today and i think after that my pt3 nor postgres hasn't worked properly. Just wondering if it could be because of that?

Hmm... checked the event viewer again and now there is an error with postgres. Wonder why they weren't there earlier. but anyways here is the error: 2009-03-04 18:34:47 EET FATAL: could not create any TCP/IP sockets

and also warning 2009-03-04 18:34:47 EET WARNING: could not create listen socket for "localhost" and

I'm using Vista...

I finally got the upgrade to download - now when i try to open PT3 it says warning you need to run as administrator. However I AM RUNNING AS ADMIN. i click let me continue. and I get a scond screen warning me not to continue without running as admin. I ignore it and try to start the program then get the "a version is already running"

I am completely irritated and $45 for HM is looking pretty good at this point if I cannot get this resolved.

I also get these two warnings when i shut down my comp. They are in event viewer under userenv.

Windows saved user (computer name) registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

And

Windows cannot unload your classes registry file - it is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

Friend of mine said he had the same problem few months ago. He said he just reinstalled both postgresql and poker tracker3. Now it's working fine for him. Remember to take copy of the hand histories though

I have a similiar problem sometimes with vista, but only if I try to start pokertracker while online. If I start it while offline it starts up fine.
Dunno if it's the same thing, but hope this helps.

I got so frusrated I just removed everything pt3 related and re-installed. Sadly, I am an idiot and deleted my hand histories......

everything working fine now....

That error is fixable by reinstalling PostgreSQL if you follow the steps of this tutorial.
