Poker Tracker / Postgres Issue

I reinstalled poker tracker and postgres, starting from starch using the latest postgres 8.4.1 When i restated the PC after importing my database and observed hands i noticed that there was a "postgres" user account on the winodws start up screen, i deleted it (mistake) and after that poker tracker does not work.

When i open PT a "select default database" window appears; i cannot select my databases and when i try to create a new one it says "unable to create... reason unable to login to database (tewmplate1)... could not connect to server: connection refused.

What do i do? Do i have to start from starch to ensure a secure install, obviously i don't want any issues down the line?

Either way i need to get access to my own hands if i need to re import

Needless to say i cannot play until it is resolved; please help as soon as you can, thanks

Re: Poker Tracker / Postgres Issue

I managed to get hold of my hands so i am going to start from scratch because i don't really trust all the re-installing and fiddling that i had to do.

The thing is every time i re-install postgres it creates a "user account" in windows; with a log on screen with the users; I even have a "postgres's documents" folder in the "my computer" window.

And when i boot up if i want to go into my admin (normal) account i actually have to actully click on it when i normally don't have to it just boot right up into windows. If i delete the account in control panel then this is was caused the errors, so that's not an option.

So how do i install without getting this? I have tried using postgres version 4.8.1 and 3.8 and i get the same thing. I know this can be done because i have never had this issue when installing postgres/poker tracker over the years.

Thanks for the help

If you want to hide the 'postgres' user from the login window, you can do that by following these instructions.

I am looking into this but i am not sure why i would have to follow these steps just to install postgres without adding a user account in windows etc because as i said i have re-installed SQL many times without this issue. Please can you tell me how to do this?

I do recall having to do something with the "stack builder" application, may be that had something to do with it?

The postgres user is required - that is how access to your PostgreSQL databases are controlled.

But i have never had the "postgres's douments" folder in the my computer window, nor the user choice when i boot up windows...

Re: Poker Tracker / Postgres Issue

I will be happy just to have windows automatically boot up without having to select "admin" / my account account. would the link you provided do this or just remove that option i.e. would i still have to select my log on account?

Have they changed the program to have this postgres user option at start up

Re: Poker Tracker / Postgres Issue

I think automatic logging on is available as a feature in TweakUI, which you can get here. If you hide the postgres user you shouldn't see them on the logon page as an option to log in with. I don't know if that will make the logon page not come up at all.

Thanks, i try that. I just find it so strange that this issue has arised even though i have never had to deal with this before?

Re: Poker Tracker / Postgres Issue

I'm not sure about that, to be honest. I do know that the way 8.4 installs itself changed from the way 8.3 used to install itself so it's possible that's the cause.
