Match versus 15$ regular multi-tabler.

Hello.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I am struggling to move up to 15$ but working with game by reading book and reviewing sessions, for now having difficulties to balance some things what read on the Intelligence poker player book but all come with time... This player is regular 15$ player but have seen him also playing higher, at match start he was playing 4 tables but at end just 2.
I probably don't need to beat him but just get him not play with me later on.
This really is player what i have hard to adjust.

For theses who are not willing to talk about all session i don't really know with one hand to recommend, but you probably can answer to question 3betting below...

Wanted ask what cards is good to add into 3bet range except top range? what good hands to add from button and middle? how to balance them?

Hero (BTN/SB): t1500 150 BBs
BB: t1500 150 BBs

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN/SB with 9 6
Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls

Probably playing versus regular (what i know at first hand from nick) with never capping to hide information.

Flop: (6 SB) T 6 K (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls

Probably 3betting me wide and can have ax, qx, small pp, jq, j9, q9 what i want raise here, i have to weak hand to wait turn.

Turn: (5 BB) 7 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

I probably can make some q high fold here and value from a high/small pp/draw.

River: (7 BB) 6 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Pure value.

Final Pot: 9 BB
Hero shows 9 6 (three of a kind, Sixes)
BB mucks 9 A
Hero wins 9 BB

Probably he is calling here me down with a high to gain information about me while blinds is low. What kinda information he gain here? What to think about his potential adjusting to me when he seen this play?
I assume he will make little less cbets now, right thinking here?

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BB with 9 3
BTN/SB raises, 1 fold

Final Pot: 1 BB
BTN/SB wins 1 BB

I assume he will play well postflop, so folding this hand oop.

BTN/SB: t1400 140 BBs

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BB with 9 A
BTN/SB raises, Hero 3-bets, BTN/SB calls

I probably need make wide 3bets versus his wide steal range.

Flop: (6 SB) 5 9 K (2 players)
Hero bets, BTN/SB calls

Betting for value.

Turn: (4 BB) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets, BTN/SB calls

Betting for value/calling down if raised.

River: (6 BB) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets, BTN/SB calls

I was kinda betting for value here from worst 9x and 5x/calling if raised.

Final Pot: 8 BB
Hero shows 9 A (two pair, Nines and Sevens)
BTN/SB shows A K (two pair, Kings and Sevens)
BTN/SB wins 8 BB

I assume from this that he is also is playing "never cap" play but i really don't get his call down here, any idea about it? Is this something what i need really think he do regularly? Or it something to mess me around?

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN/SB with 2 8
Hero raises, BB calls

Flop: (4 SB) 4 3 9 (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls

I was really raising here for free cards with 2 backdoor draws + 8 as out. Checking turn if he just call/check into me if unimproved/betting if improve to any draw.

Turn: (5 BB) 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

I don't think we can get fold on this turn card anything what made 3bet flop, i really is giving up this hand if no 2 or 8 come on river.

River: (5 BB) T (2 players)
BB bets, Hero folds

As planed on turn.

Final Pot: 5 BB
BB wins 5 BB

I really get confused here about his 3bet flop oop to check turn. I really having hard to think what it can be. My guess here was 9x and fear from 3 on turn or 3x and try to c/r me because seen some aggression from me. O.o

I should bet here because all kx and ax cbet flop here and he probably have nothing better then qx in most cases?

Probably if made check on turn this is only real option here. I probably can't call now q high when that card come river. Right?

This is now for value because he probably no fold worst ax or even kx and any draw here. If raised here probably find myself call down all rivers except 8, j heart or club, or it also worth call them?.

River: (8 BB) K (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets, Hero calls

Here i improved to top pair but also complete flush draws and have probability that i am versus trips and straight if river helped him. Or i need think that all straight and flush draws raise me flop or turn?

Final Pot: 10 BB

Ok, there is really point to call if i anyway think to fold most turns? Most turns can be folded here with k high without giving away to much best hands?

Turn: (3 BB) 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets, Hero folds

This probably isn't best hand for our k high. Is there worth to call down? If we call down here we can show opp that we calling loose and he probably should tighter his betting down range?

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN/SB with 9 T

Calling with think to raise turn because high probability that he can do this c/r with worst hand.

Turn: (4 BB) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Pretty confusing check from him, probably should start 3bet more on flop value hands.

River: (6 BB) 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Probably getting 1 bet value from 7x, 8x and loosing 1 more bet to 6x if we think that A he probably continue if it improve his hand. I assume this as bet for value.

Final Pot: 8 BB
Hero shows 9 T (a pair of Nines)

Good hand to include into 3bet range versus this player?

I assume i can peek one against his wide preflop steal and wide flop cbet range.

Turn: (3 BB) K (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets, Hero calls

Assuming he can bet flush and straight draws down (if we think he is regular player and is capable of it) we can call here with some hope that we have best hand and with think probably not fold river any card. This is good play here (not folding almost all rivers) to show him that you are not folding that often to allow him bet any draw down but tighter up his cbets on turn?

River: (5 BB) A (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets, Hero calls

This is bad card but sticking with plan on turn.

Final Pot: 7 BB
Hero shows 6 Q (a pair of Kings - Ace+Queen kicker)

Early i was saying i should make more 3 bets on flop, here i also risk giving free card him (what really don't scare us in way that he will beat us but way we lose bets). Should always 3bet here versus this player? Now when reviewing i think 3bet here can be better play versus this player. In actual hand i was planing to c/r turn.

Turn: (5 BB) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets, Hero raises, BTN/SB calls

Sticking with plan on flop, done it successful.

River: (9 BB) 6 (2 players)
Hero bets, BTN/SB calls

Pure value.

Final Pot: 11 BB
Hero shows A 7 (a flush, Ace high)
BTN/SB mucks 3 4
Hero wins 11 BB

I am not sure if he fold river if dangerous card come to his 4. But i don't think he played here terrible and i probably play here similar into his spot.

Pretty loose call here from me, not sure about it versus this player who play good postflop.

Flop: (4 SB) 3 2 8 (2 players)

Turn: (2 BB) 3 (2 players)

I think it option to bet here because can get tx, jx, qx fold.

River: (2 BB) T (2 players)

If checked turn there is still option to bet river as bluff to make best hands fold? I think it not really good to bet only river, opp can probably now call qx because it will seem not logical to him and will think that i bluff, so i get fold only jx because tx improved here.

Re: Match versus 15$ regular multi-tabler.

Hand 1
Although you do identify some hands that your flop raise would seem to get value from, I think when you consider the amount of equity you have versus them, a calldown is likely better, especially since you are IP. It's not a bad flop for his 3! range. Also, I don't necessarily agree with the expectation that a winning player will have the smallest pps in his pf trey range. Likely not a bad play some % of the time and it worked out well here; I just don't think it would be my default play, esp. this early in a match. I don't think he's calling down so much for info as he is because of the strength of his hand, the size of the pot, and the fact that the turn and rivers were bricks for any of your flopped draws.

Hand 2
I would still play it.

Hand 6
Have you studied the variation where we always smooth call from the bb and then c/r a lot of flops? It's my preferred default strat. Nothing wrong w/ having a 3! range, ofc -- just curious if you've looked into this and what your thoughts were. I guess reading your notes after the river that you are aware of these strats. Although I don't mind his smooth call on the flop given the action, I would tend to raise flop oop and I think he's leaving money behind by never raising. It's noteworthy but I wouldn't make any huge adjustment based on this one hand.

Hand 7
It's kind of bold and you don't have much equity agaist what I would consider to be the pop tendency for leading the flop, but I like your reasoning and it's def not terribad. Against better players, I think you will run into donk/trey lines more often, so you have to take that into consideration as well. He could check the turn for a lot of reasons (going for a sexy w/ 3x, has a weak 4x and decides to induce rather than get raises, etc). If he's playing multiple tables, he may also just lose track of the action sometimes.

Hand 8
I don't agree w/ your assertion that he bets the flop w/ A high and K high. This thinking is also inconsistent with your river play. I actually play the hand the same way but for very different reasons (I think on the river he's betting A-high or a big K for value).

Hand 9
Meh. I likely open it.

Hand 10
Turn is close. I like your thinking but you're holding blockers to those A-high and K-high hands and the draws will usually charge themselves when you check. I would tend to mix it up so def not saying it's a bad play and I like your plan for the river. River play is fine. Not sure about your note since he actually called flop then raised turn IP.

Hand 11
He doesn't rep an A very well so not sure why you're planning on folding any turns. In general I think you're up against a super wide range here and I would tend to call down. Noteworthy that he did smooth call A9o out of the bb this time, which supports previous indications that he's trying to mix up his play, perhaps with a tendency to slowplay a bit.

Hand 12
This is a spot where I sometimes take the somewhat unorthodox line of raising w/ a hand on the flop even though it doesn't rate to fold out a ton of better hands or get value from many worse ones. My idea is that you have the best hand a ton, a lot of villains will have trouble continuing against a c/r, and your hand is otherwise hard to play well on the later streets. Would be interested to hear if ppl disagree with this as it's an idea I pretty much came up with on my own and it could be completely wrong.

Hand 16
It's another spot where I don't agree with the expectation that he's cbetting all A and K high one the flop. I think he can do this as a bluff-catching play at least some % of the time. Check/folding turn is fine just because the J sort of hits the range of worse hands that don't bet the flop.

Hand 18
Prefer c/r to peel.

Hand 20
I think it's a mistake to assume that just because you showed down Q-high once (it's nut no-pair on this river) that your opponent is going to try to bluff you any less often. In fact, some opponents will try to bluff again sometime in the near future, hoping you make that exact adjustment. It's a good play though and obv makes you less exploitable. Villain's river barrel is kind of hopeless imo.

Hand 21
I've never understood raising the flop in this spot. You get value from peels that fold turn UI, sure, but you fold out a lot of air that would otherwise barrel turn and you end up putting in extra bets when behind. I tend to just call down the greater percent of the time, occasionally throwing in a raise somewhere with my biggest aces on especially favorable textures.

Hand 22
Don't mind c-betting the turn at all but I don't understand your comment about him taking a free card if you check to him. You no longer have an equity edge.

Hand 23
I think in general as you start to play higher, bluff-inducing lines become more profitable and some of those thinner value betting spots can actually become small leaks since you tend to put in extra bets when behind while folding out hands that would otherwise have bet when checked to. This does not mean you should respect his turn bets more; in fact, in conjunction with what we've already seen, it likely indicates his barreling ranges become more and more polarized street by street.

Hand 24
I never peel here but I sometimes raise.

Hand 25
That's for sure a pure bluff, which is noteworthy as it helps you develop a sense for what textures he is willing to attack.

Hand 26
Your pf strat appears to be somewhat inconsistent. For example, I think I've seen you both opening and defending 64o in this match, but here you open fold 85o otb. If anything, I would think 85o has more equity and IMO it's the more playable of the two hands.

Hand 30
OOP I'm almost always raising/treying/capping flop for value (depending on hand strength and action ofc). The only time I really get away from this is if the player barrels turn a really high percent of the time. I actually think his play was pretty bad overall. It illustrates what I was saying before about how you might think you're getting super thin value by playing a flop like this aggressively, when in reality you're setting yourself up to put in extra bets when behind and a lot of times you may not even have an equity edge versus the unmade hands that put in action against you.

Hand 31
Almost never treying the flop here for the reasons noted above. Turn is okay but not sure why you talk about folding out his 3-outers. Sounds like a protection argument to me.

Hand 33
Against a player who follows-thru more on the turn after raising flop, I would def start rebluffing some flops. Against this guy, I think you can just float him sometimes and take it away on the turn. Even though it sounds kind of unorthodox, it saves you bets when behind and accomplishes the same thing.

Hand 40
Nice hand.

Hand 52
In general, I think he's either not as good as you think (did you look him up on SS?) or he makes a lot of mistakes/misclicks when multitabling. Never checking that turn - lots you can get value from including all single diamonds, some of which may even raise you.

Hand 58
He def leaves some money on the table in some of these spots (esp. w/ tp hands) but his passive lines likely do well versus a pop tendency to continue barreling after 3-betting pf while he simultaneously avoids the problem of putting in a lot of action when behind.

Hand 60
Flop is raise or fold imo.

Hand 65
I think you can bet turn for value expecting to get called by any pair, any 7x and any single spade hand. Yeah, you get raised by the J somtimes (it would also raise flop sometimes) but you also have a profitable call down versus semi-bluffing turn raises so overall I think it's a pretty profitable spot.

Hand 66
c/r is prolly best just because it's hard to imagine getting trey'd by much and you sometimes get a passively played btm pair or a weak 7x to pay you off.

Hand 71
Meh, just because he had it twice doesn't mean he never bluffs those textures.

gg overall. I feel like you're perhaps reading too much into the fact that he's a reg or multitabler at these stakes. I wish I could find the post to link you to it, but I remember when I used to post in micros all the time, there was a guy who had just started playing 2/4. Now this was a guy who always posted really good, spot on strat and was doing really well and moving up in the 6m games. And this hand he posted, it was just comical. The way he played it, his comments on the action, everything. It was like he was totally mind-****ed by his perception of the villain as a solid 2/4 regular. I've felt similarly at times when moving up, and it's def something to be on guard against. It's good to look for opportunities to learn from better opponents, but you have to make sure you're not (a) assuming they are better than they really are and (b) over-thinking spots that you would otherwise play just fine if you continued to apply your usual strategy.

One thing you could def start doing is mixing up your own play more. For ex., you ask about pf 3-betting ranges in your OP. In this match, your 3-betting range was very transparent, and as a result, your range when just calling from the bb is more obv as well. If you are going to 3! pf, you will def need to mix your ranges more as you continue to move up, smooth calling some of your better hands and treying others that aren't quite as strong. As someone who just calls almost always out of the bb, I don't know this from experience or even study, but I would tend to think in HUHU your 3-bet range should be more merged than polarized, as you don't necessarily gain a lot of fe from the play. The rare times when I do trey pf against an opponent because of his particular tendencies, this is usually what I do (i.e., 3! some hands like J9s T7s but not super weak hands like 24s or 96o). Would obv be interested in other opinions if that's not the right approach tho.

Re: Match versus 15$ regular multi-tabler.

Sharkscope is another site for searching tournament results. Anyway, I'm surprised his results are that good but I guess we only see a small sample of his play here and as I mentioned before, some stuff that seems weird could just happen when he loses track of the action playing multiple tables.

I think 3 betting preflop depends on your opponents c bet range first, his propensity to overplay hands if we just call second, then depending on those factors we might decide to 3 bet. If we decide to 3 bet, then we look at his opening range and tendencies and decide what to 3 bet.

If we can run him over, easy game.

If we think he'll bluffraise postflop more than optimal then we should 3 bet a tight range so we're not bet folding the flop or bet calling the flop and check folding the turn too much. 3 betting T7s seems like a waste against this guy.

If we think he won't bluffraise postflop more than optimal then bet folding for thin value becomes the play postflop. We can 3 bet a few more hands for value against this guy.

If we think he'll barrel the flop and turn mindlessly, and will showdown at a good rate, then we should just call our good hands preflop intending to check raise a lot of flops and turns.

If we think he'll check back a lot (10%+) of flops then I like 3 betting wide. Our weak hands do better against this guy; free cards are great for a weak preflop calling range.

There are lot's of different scenarios, and without this information I don't 3 bet if I've had a lot of calling hands so far. If I get good starting hands during the beginning of a match, then I'll go ahead and 3 bet for value only.

Just my opinion.

You have great points here.

If opponent is barreling down close to 100% after stealing 80-100% you just call every preflop hand to check/raise somewhere postflop?

Bold text is mean as if you for example get bad run and not 3betting for example for 25 hands, you stay calling best hands to hide information if opp is thinking player and not player from who we can gain lot by 3betting what you explained before in text?
Thanks, and merry Christmas.

Yeah you got it.
