HU vs computer

Is there any semi competent LHE Computers that you can battle with online?

I'd probably pay a small amount to download one if it's decently strong- I'm not trying to build a bot of my own or anything like that, just looking to play some competitive HU for fun/practice.

Would really appreciate it if someone could help with a recommendation.

Thanks!

Well I'd download a client if I need to,doesn't have to just be on a website. I tried searching around old threads and google but every site I come across is down.

Re: HU vs computer

Most sites have husngs you can play for just a dollar or two per match, which may be a better exercise anyway since you'll get to practice against real humans (for the most part?) and learn how to adjust to all the crazy things they do. Your money buys a decent number of hands and the action overall is soft enough that you'll likely profit.

Re: HU vs computer

LOL, I started playing it as soon as I woke up, got up about 200 chips fast and then donked them all off autopiloting while listening to NIN and wishing I had stocked up on coffee last night. I was also misclicking a ton at first. Anyway, I finally ground my way back to just above break even and decided to take a short break. Hard to say for sure on a 900 hand sample but I think it has some tendencies that are exploitable.

Not fond of having to deal every hand.
It nailed the river 4 hands in a row on me.
Too much like merge.

Re: HU vs computer

Thanks for the link.

Was crushing it for a bit but started to just mash the raise button and didn't work out so well. Seems like the comp gets dealt way more premiums preflop but could be more rigged i suppose. Having to click deal every hand is pretty tilting, still better than anything else I've found.

Re: HU vs computer

My experience was about the same. I'd go so far as to I say I hate the interface and aside from the first initial burst of play I put in while half-asleep this morning, I haven't been able to play it for more than ten minutes at a time. I also find in general that when you separate real money gambling from poker, it loses a lot of its flavor.

One feature I really would have liked is if it saved the status of your match somehow so you had an exact tally of your overall results versus the bot. I did try to just leave the browser open but it seemed like whenever I took longer breaks it would freeze up the game and I would have to reload the page, which then reset the stack sizes.

I def caught it overplaying some second best hands in cooler situations and I think its lines with high-card sd-able hands are pretty transparent. It also seems generally susceptible to free card plays, it being relatively rare that it 3! or capped the flop versus me. I never caught it bluff-raising or rfsd'ing on the big bet streets but I guess that could be a function of sample size. It will wait for the turn with stronger tptk type hands, though.

All that having been said, I thought it was pretty strong, showing a decent amount of aggression and mixing up its play some. I did some brief experiments with alternate pf lines and my feeling was that it does a pretty good job of adjusting to changes in overall pot size. It's hard to know exactly where I stood against it when I quit because of the problems mentioned above but I don't think it could have been very much better than b/e.

I did wonder if the Dragon listed on the high score board is any relation to the one who posts here?

This is of course the same school that developed Hyperborean and Polaris. Skimming over the paperwork, it looks like Sartre is inferior to Hyperborean and came in 6 of 12 in some bot-related competition in 2009.

this link at the bottom takes you to the U of Auckaland NZ. Hyperborean is on the list of competitors that SATRE lost to in 2011 comp.

I had a bit of a look around but couldnt find much other info. would be cool to see some HH or have the chance to play/view some of the bots that the winner beat.

Re: HU vs computer

Oh, yeah, I was thinking University of Alberta. Should have been obv from the URL, LOL. I saw Hyperborean mentioned in the docs which added to my confusion.
