Re: Building a skype hush study group to tackle GTO play/MoP

rez, I will let you know if a spot opens up but I want to keep it around 10 for now so it doesn't become a beepy unwieldy cluster****. China, this goes for your offer too- thanks but no thanks.

There are diminishing returns for everyone else the bigger the 'classroom' gets. The idea is for it to be a seminar similar to a lit studies class where we base our discussion on a few major texts with lots of discussion questions. As anyone who went to an underfunded, overcrowded graduate school knows, a 20 person seminar sucks. It ends up being dominated by two or three turd-burglars while everyone else doodles. In skype with chat it will be even harder. Also, skype video conferencing tops out at 10. If attendance sucks though and we need 15 members so 8-10 show up then that will be different. For now though we keep it at 10.

Re: Building a skype hush study group to tackle GTO play/MoP

OK, good meet. We are a friendly group with ego left at the door! We had 5 today with almost none of the math heavies and it will still quite productive.

China and rez you are both in. Send me your skype name and emails and I will send you an update. Also, philnewall may be interested in talking some theory.

Everyone who wasn't there, send me your emails and skype names.

This is what we are working on for next Tuesday at 3pm EST:

Use Cardrunners EV to create a model for the following problem. If you don't know how, which barely any of us do, we plan to watch this video:

http://www.cardrunners.com/poker-vid...part-1-scylla/

Problem 1:

30% 3bettor preflop who bets the flop, turn and river automatically. We are assuming you only call/fold flop and never raise. Fill out the tree and determine what the approximate GTO range is for you on a random flop. From there, we can start playing with flops.

BONUS: figure out how the heck to make a custom filter in pt3 to filter for opponent 3bet pf only boards.

We plan on sending out rough email drafts on Monday for the meeting on Tuesday.

We are also having a second intro session on Thursday at 3pm for the people who couldn't make today or who missed my pm. We will further discuss it there.

The sooner you get on the email listserv the sooner we can get off this atrocious 2-person max pm system that no-one checks.

I will keep organizing this but will probably need someone to take over in the summer when I am gigging full-time in mid-June/July/August. Also, I can look into getting video conferencing.

Just a nit: You'd be finding the maximally exploitive range vs an opponent with a fixed strategy, not a GTO range. Rather, it would only be GTO if opponent's strategy happened to be GTO as well, which it seems unlikely.

Also, unless I'm misunderstanding, this is just an equity/pot odds calc. Which hands have enough equity vs a 30% range to make calling down profitable. Then of course on certain turn cards, some of your hands would lose enough that calling down became -EV, so you'd fold on the turn. Similarly for river.
