Based on your description of location and distance from local casinos, I think we live in the same town (I live downtown in a "district" named after a western US state, which if I'm right you'll know where I mean). Probably even played against each other (I play at the places you described, except the club you played the tournament in May).

I have actually had a similar idea and change as you (my initial kick-in-the-rear moment was enduring a horrible winter a few years ago and wanting warmer weather year round, plus our town is definitely a little boring). I was at 235 pounds this past mid-December (at 6'1, 32 y/o ... high was 240.6) and I'm currently down to 185.8 as of this morning. My initial goal was to lose 50 pounds (1 pound to go) but the overall goal is to get down to the waist/shirt size I was in law school (so I have a little bit more to go).

Anyways, one thing I don't believe you've factored in is the cost of buying new clothes after losing a significant amount of weight. I've spent $1000 since the start of July on redoing my wardrobe (still more to go, eventually). While I plan on selling some higher end items (Ralph Lauren/Tommy Hilfiger suits, etc) on Craigslist/eBay, I was going to donate most of the dress shirts and khaki pants to a thrift store. If you have any interest, I can hold on to them until you're about 250ish and you can have any you want before I give them away. Just message me if interested and I can send you dimensions. If not, no problem.

Good luck with your goals!
Small world.

I`m moving out to Vegas soon myself; good luck with your journey and maybe I`ll see you at the tables one day. One thing I can tell you; as soon as I made the decision to move out there a while back, time has seemingly started going way slower. I think mainly because I`m looking forward to it so much and all the moving plans are pretty much as set as I can get them at the moment. So I guess try to not to be like me and daydream about it too much haha.

Wow, It is have been 4 months since I posted on here. I can assure my dream still lives on. I have had some major incidents happen this year. From surgery, to colonoscopy, to another surgery, to getting robbed and my bank account getting hacked! Are the Gods telling me not to go to Vegas?
I don't care. All this year has done for me is shown me how much I need to get a fresh start somewhere not in Ohio. I love Vegas and I am still planning on moving. The year is winding down, I still live at my dads and still have time to stay there. I have been saving and living like a broke man for the last month. Personal savings is back to a safe point.
2017 is my year of redemption! I will make this happen and I will be in Vegas by Jan 2018.
Top priorities, Pay hospital debt, rebuild poker roll, and stay on my track of becoming healthy. As much as I want to play poker every weekend, I am searching for a second job. I will have plenty of time for poker when I move right? A second job will be a lot but it will help my goal move along much faster and I am willing to sacrifice my time, to further my myself and my dream.
Maybe a pizza delivery driver?
I also booked a trip for Vegas in April. Just to hold me over.
I am currently revising my plan, as I will make this happen and I am confident that 2017 will/has to be better then 2016. Right?

Fear not, the revised plan is coming in the next week or so. So I can start of 2018 positive!

I will start a new thread when the time comes and I finally make it to Vegas, I could go in April and just never come back. I am trying to finalize my plan and have it posted by this weekend. Thanks for the positive thoughts!

Well it is time to post me new plan. Yes, I understand there will be those who doubt me. But I am going to make this happen. 2016 has been nothing but hell for me and it can only get better. In fact, it already has. After I got back from Vegas in March, I was so ready for the move. Then two surgeries, robbed, bank account hacked and various other things, we are now here. December 28, 2016. The year is almost over and I couldn’t be happier.

I have been thinking for weeks about this new plan and how I need to set it up to make sure I succeed in making this move. I find myself more and more ready to be out of Ohio. I am bitter at work, and it is carrying over into my home life. The only time I am happy is when I am playing poker or thinking about moving. It isn’t my job that is doing this, as I enjoy my job, it is just the idea of another day I am stuck in lame Ohio. Before we go further, I want to remind people I am not moving to Vegas to be a pro poker player. Yes, I have dreams and ambitions of playing poker professionally, but there is only a small chance of that happening SO I must be realistic. My main reason for moving to Vegas is to live there. I love the atmosphere, the culture and the setting. I enjoy the desert and the big city life. Most importantly, there is nothing in Ohio for me. I have tried it for 27 years and it has nothing for me. Just heartache and boring days.

I have been thinking long and heard about this second plan. As I have already typed it up on 3 separate occasions. I think this will be my final draft. I set my plan initially in Feb. While I did take time, and put it together, I think I put too much pressure on myself. I set a plan and put a TIME RESTRAINT on this plan. I think this was my biggest downfall. As I missed one goal and then I was discouraged or angry at myself. SO this time there will be no end date. Once I accomplish my goals, I will move. Also, let’s say I accomplish one goal and just can’t take it anymore, I may move. Also, when I go on vacation in April to Vegas, I could just decide not to come back.

To alleviate stress and make it easier on me, I am not setting a target date. While I want to be out there sooner than later, I do not want to stress myself out. I have some minor things to finish paying off before I more and I want to make sure those are finished beforehand.

Here are the 5 things I will be focusing on before the move. The first two aren’t really goals but just things I need to do/consider before I move. First, I need to line up some job aspects before I move. I know finding a job while not being out there might be hard I will just scout Caesars website, snagajob and various other sites for information on a job. Also, if anyone has any ideas of connections they can set up, that would be great. I am 27 and have a lot of experience. I worked in car sales for 4.5 years at Carmax, I have ran sound at my local church for 6 years, and currently am the shipping and receiving manager at a recycling center in Ohio. I guess in the scrap industry they call my position “Scale master” Whatever that means. I currently coordinate 25+ trucks every day, deal with quick books, and accounts payable. I am open to all jobs, I have been considering a dealer job, casino security and anything really.

The second thing is paying things off. I want to pay some things off before I move. I have some minor bills from my surgeries that I would like to pay off before I move. I want to have my monthly bills only be car related, cell phone and living expenses. The less I pay a month the better off I will be.

This brings me to my next part of “The Plan,” the 3 goals I want to reach before I move. While they are all equally important, my health will be number one in my mind. I stand 6 feet 2 inches tall and I currently weight 305lbs. While I carry it well because of many years in track and field and powerlifting, I am not by any means “in shape.” I would like to get my weight around 240 lbs. That is when I felt my best. This will be the hardest but I must concentrate the most on it. I have a membership and have a love for being healthy, I just must get in the habit of doing cardio.

The second goal that I am going to hope to achieve before leaving is establishing a better poker roll. My poker roll right now is pretty much non-existent. Earlier this year someone stole my bookbag out of my car when I was on the way to the casino. Had a good portion of my roll in it. I know, I know, keep money on you at all times. I learned my lesson. While playing poker is my passion and what I do in my free time, I mentioned it is not the main reason for me to move there. So if I complete my other goals and this is not finished, I will still move.

Third goal and almost tied with health as my most important goal, life roll. I want to have a life roll that allows me to live for 8 months without a job when I get there. My plane is to try and find a job and have it lined up before I get there but I need to make sure I have some money to live on if that doesn’t happen.

I think these are all reasonable goals and I know they are things that I can accomplish before I move. I am not setting a target date like I mentioned. But I would like to move before the year is up. I have some major boost coming to my life roll. As I just had a Christmas bonus, vacation check is in Feb and of course the all powerful tax return!

Well that’s what I am working on and here are the numbers.
Weight: 240 lbs
Poker roll: $5,000 (going to start at playing $1/2)
Life roll: $10,000

Current situation

Weight: 305lbs
Poker roll: $500
Life roll: $1800

My plan with this is to be completely transparent and to update at least once a week. I have set reminders in my phone as I tend to forget things and laziness wins. I want to stay motivated and I think this will help. The main motivation I need is weight loss. On a side note, I have thought about vlogging this. Not really the poker side because there has been an explosion of poker vlogs recently, some good but most pretty bad. Anyways I want to vlog it for my own use, motivation and memoires down the road. I think vlogging might be helpful and hold me accountable while doing this. Maybe one vlog a week to start and see where it goes.

This has turned into a pretty long post, sorry for that. But I am a thinker and I like to plan things out. Plus I really want this to happen, I just need to stay motivated. I need to do it now while I am 27 single and no kids.

Thanks for sticking with me!

I wish you luck but this is not a Vegas related story until you actually get to Vegas, and LVL is stories about Vegas...There is a house of blogs... (but I'm not an admin so whatever)

If you have experience in car sales you can get a job anywhere. Most places you can just walk onto a lot and start selling. This is according to my friend who has been slinging metal all his life.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that Car sales would be my best bet when I get out there initially. I might even apply back at Carmax.

Building that poker roll today! At local casino for 1/2. They have a promotion high hand every $15 minutes. Full house or higher!

I'll be in Columbus again next weekend. I will print this forum off and we can all share a bit together. Chocolate syrup? Or any other toppings?

Subbing as I play in Columbus also, and dabble with Dayton/Cincy. I'll be living vicariously through you ITT, as I really want to move to Vegas or Florida, but am stuck here in Ohio, as I want to be close to my kids until they're done with HS.

Btw, I lost 60 pounds (6'6" 320 -> 260) just cutting carbs and going on the elliptical a few days a week at Planet Fitness, while watching poker streams on twitch in the process. Just find your motivation and stick with it.
