I was playing 1/2nl there in about 2006 and suddenly several metro police offers came in and went directly to the final table of the weekly or monthly tourney and arrested a player.

Surveillance had been tracking him for weeks pocketing chips from lower value tourneys and having them in his pocket to add to his stack in the bigger tourneys.

I think they chopped up his table stack among the players left at the final table, not sure what they did with any chips in his pockets. lol

It's one thing to have a poker room that looks like it's in the back of a really ****ty warehouse. It's another thing to put an unphotoshopped picture of it on social media.

Who wants all their potential customers to know that their place looks depressing as hell?

if it helps, the sportsbook area as a whole is pretty nice.

You guys are missing out that there is 4 flat screens along the back wall and then the 3 projectors on the ceiling that are for the white screens on the left. Going to be best room in Vegas for sports watching I'm guessing.

They are apparently doing $4 rake (+$2 jackpot drop) so I don't really mind that it looks dumpy. That's me personally but for casual rec players who want a nice experience that has got to be one of the worst rooms on the strip.

- those chairs look horrible and uncomfortable
- those are the folding poker tables (look like they are about to fall over)
- the carpet looks from the 1980's in terms of style and also how old and dirty the physical carpet looks like (casinos should and do replace worn carpet all the time)
- whoever decided to put a photo of the EMPTY room with the TV's off (so you can't even see them really) on social media as an advertisement of the room should have their social media account blocked because it is HURTING the image of the room

You don't need fake/mock players in the room but turn on the TV's to a bunch of sports games, focus the shot on something aesthetically pleasing in the room (maybe put some chips on one of the tables with the board out), and take 1 good photo to put up on social media.

Heck, if the room is still closed, use a stock photo of people playing poker to announce the room opening on social media. Let people get surprised by how ugly the room looks but at least they will already be there and they'll stay to play. Maybe the friendly dealers will win them over. Don't scare them away before they even get there.

Looks like 32 inch TVs from 2003.

According to poker atlas live info, there is 2 games of 1/2nl going no with no list. Has anyone checked it out yet?

Has some 1980s nostalgic feel. The old LVH was very good to locals. Can't speak for the last 5 years, but I imagine Westgate has kept that up.

I infer that there's a big difference between $4+$1 and $5+, so I hope it stays $4. Good for local $1/$2 nits, but I don't see this being a regular room for non low stakes holdem.

For non-locals who happen to stay at Westage for whatever reason including of course sports / racing, this will be a nice way to play some poker and earn food comps. Any self parking comps are always good, yet from what I've already read this probably won't be a thing on many days because of events - conventions, sporting events, and the like.

Maybe you guys should adjust your expectations, it ain't gunna rival the ****ing Bellagio.

Staff was very accommodating, quick cocktail service, view of all the screens in the sports book.

I think it will probably have about the same traffic as the Hard Rock did, 1 or 2 tables then maybe a few more during conventions or big sporting events.

That actually looks a lot better than I remember it looking when I walked by it 2-3 years ago (before it closed). It actually looks like a room in that picture.

I'm playing in the room right now. It's 10 handed and the guy to my right must weigh 500 pounds.

when I was there earlier they had 2 full tables of $1/2 NL going. the high hand bonus is a joke (unless it was explained to me wrong): must FLOP the high hand and the payouts are lol given the odds of actually flopping a HH ($500 for a royal, $50 for quads).

nothing else special about the room but there is a big pool tourney going on and a lot of those guys are at the westgate right now. played with some of them at the rio before and they were pretty gambolly without being particularly good. hopefully they invade the room and one of u can take advantage.

Just played there tonight. The gates were open in the lot by Superbook and garage next to it. I talked with the floor, he said they opened specifically for the pool convention that is in town and changes to the buy ins and seating will be done once everything is in place.

Comps are at $1 an hour at least, trying for $2. Seating is 10 handed, but once their new chairs come in will be 9 handed. Also, the buy in is 50-200 now but will change to 100-300. Promos will change as well, just need to build a reserve. The view of the tvs and superbook itself are actually very good in my opinion.

The location of the sports book is in the old "fan cave" walled in area connected to the sports book, vs just 2 tables floating in the middle of some slots like it was the last time around, so that is at least an improvement. Westgate is known for the Super Book sports book, and despite the casino location, and overall old crap feel (see carpet description above), the sports book itself is one of the best action sports books in Vegas. It always offers the most variety of action, including boasting the best prop bet action available for live sports betting anywhere in town. They renovated and put in the best TV viewing experience on the strip in many years (think Palms back when it had the nicest quality floor to ceiling sports wall feel). Since then, Caesers and now most recently Wynn has renovated to catch up to what the Super Book did for sports viewing, but still don't offer as much in the way of actual prop betting and variety of sports betting.

All these things considered, their niche is most definitely sports fans, and that will unfortunately also include the lowest rung of degenerate sports bettors that generally haven't bought a new pair of shoes in a decade because they can't afford to, and have them on to prove it. They will be shouting at the TVs and throwing losing betting slips on the floor on the reg, and will yell at the 60-something year old cocktail waitress that won't let them use yesterday's drink ticket. Somehow they have $20 to sweat out their 7 team parlay that day, but will not be bringing much to the poker table in the form of spew moneyz.

If you can get past that painted picture, there might be a silver lining to this room, this (the third) time around, simply because it still is the sports book venue of all venues around town. An easy to access location to the convention center helps, but without much else in the form of glitz and glamour clubby or bar spots, it will be predominantly made up of the aforementioned clientele most of the time. I'm cautiously optimistic it can get some good gamboolish games during football season, regardless of the heavy "brother can you spare a dime" feel I often get when I walk through those doors.

They close at 1am and reopen at 8am. They don't have enough staff to run 24/7

Wait, what? If they have 2 or 3 tables going on a Fri and Sat night, they will shut them down at 1am and force people to leave? Can someone confirm this please?

This is Vegas right? There are dozens of poker dealers who would jump to deal any game for some work hours.

I am guessing they will change their minds quick when football season starts and there is dozens of sports betting degens hanging around at midnight and beyond looking to get even somehow.

It's probably like TI. If they have a game running at closing time they won't kick them out. They also won't open a new game if a bunch of people show up for some reason. In the morning, practically speaking, they won't open until the first tournament. They'll put your name on the list if you show up at 8, but it's very unlikely there will be enough players to start a game until the first tournament.
