There was one years ago that was really cool, You gave no ID to get it and only used a pupil scan to get in. Then one day it was robbed and nobody could report any loss. Not that they would any way.

Banks get their share of safe deposit boxes robbed too, usually by employees.

This is an absurd attitude to adopt.

Are banks 100% foolproof? No. Are banks head-and-shoulders better than the second best option? Yes.

Cash goes into an FDIC-insured account, big chips into a safety deposit box (a small amount of cash in the box is fine too if you absolutely need cash but want to avoid CTRs).

Usually? I've heard of safe deposit boxes being burgled as part of a general bank robbery by using locksmith tools, blowtorches, etc.; but never inside jobs by employees. How exactly would employees manage to do that when no one at the bank has a key to your box?

Not saying that it's never been done by employees, just that I've never seen such a news story.

Do some googling. It wouldn't be hard for an employee to make copies of the keys for vacant boxes. Wouldn't happen at my bank tho, there's a friggin' line around the block waiting for an open box. I've been waiting over 5 years.

Also, almost anything with a key can be picked. I knew a guy that could pick a standard door lock in less time than most people could get in with a key.

There are those private places that have safety deposit boxes. One was robbed a few years ago and shut down but a few others still exist.
