The lack of clarity in my previous post is my fault. My source mentioned suites, I didn't quite understand, but rather than wait for an answer what they meant, I posted. For any confusion, I apologize.

To anyone who doesn't agree with a policy or has a problem at ANY business, I would put your complaint in writing. Your dissatisfaction will be in black and while plus gives them a reason to examine the situation and an opportunity to improve if needed.
Aaaa.. thanks for the info.. im not staying in a suite..
and ill try the 20$ trick for no resort fee

Re: Tropicana lv since rehab

I'm not getting suites with my comp room offers at the Trop, just a regular room in the Paradise tower.

So you're saying if in on a comp room offer at the Tropicana they collect a deposit but if you actually pay for the room they waive the deposit? That just doesn't make sense. If anything the policy would be the other way around.

Doc, have you actually checked in to the Trop lately and experienced their deposit policy firsthand or are you just going by what you've heard on the phone from a reservation agent?

If you're paying for the room (not comped) you are probably paying with a CC and most hotels will just automatically "reserve" $X per day for incidentals and you won't ever know about it. They want to make sure you have enough credit line on your card to cover it. If you check in on a comped room they'll ask you for a CC or cash for the same. I checked into the Trop last Oct on a paid room and they never said a word about the reserve, but I'm sure it was there. You usually won't know about it unless it puts you over your credit line.

I've stayed there three times since April of '11 with the most recent being April of this year, never had the deposit assessed, and my source isn't a reservation agent on the phone. What I'm saying is if someone books a regular room and pays the charges at time of check-in, there's not supposed to be any nightly deposit required. Comped rooms, which my source and I didn't really get into, might be different.

If it was me, I'd be sending snail mail or an email to The Trop.

I checked someone in at Trop today using a 2 night comp offer that I had. The lady in the invited guests line asked for a $200 cash deposit (after i told her no charging privileges on the room), I asked her to speak with her mgr cause I only wanted to leave $100, she walked away and came back and said $100 was fine.

Pic of receipt for the deposit:

Re: Tropicana lv since rehab

Nice stay. I had gotten a package deal through JetBlue. Got to check in desk, handed the lady my DL and CC and a $20. She handed me back my CC and said because room was already paid for, no CC or cash deposit needed. Got a Paradise tower room with strip view, and she waived the resort fee.
Highlight of the trip: My brother won the Thur. 7pm Aria daily tournament. He bested 148 people for $4449. I got knocked 30th, but he gave me my entry fee back.

Re: Tropicana lv since rehab

Just got back yesterday from a 6 night stay and I must say that many posts on this thread are spot on...

1. We were NOT charged any resort fee. We had pre-booked with Southwest Vacations so no deposit and no resort fee. Comped rooms are probably different.

2. The rooms are really nice. Free WiFi, IPhone dock, Flatscreen. Great place to nap!

3. The Casino Blows! Small and not much action except for Friday night (even Saturday wasn't all that crowded). $10 min tables (just adding a couple of $5 Blackjack tables would increase business a bunch.

4. The Poker Room is a joke. 1 table inhabited by the same 4 guys every day. Luckily the MGM is only a 5 minute walk.

5. If you're not into walking much the Center of the strip (Paris, Caesars, Ballagio) is only a 7 dollar cab ride.

6. The Pool isn't too bad. Eye candy is pretty decent and the service is good.

7. The food in the two upscale restaurants (Bacio for Italian and Biscayne for Steaks/Seafood) were both excellent.

8. The staff was great. Helpful and attentive.

To sum up, the Trop is a great place to use as your hotel and even to eat but gamble elsewhere.
