Trip Report: English Pretenders First Time In Vegas 24th-31st August
(I’ve tried to Americanise my writing style a little, but it may come off I simply sound like an idiot.)
On the 24th August, one week after my 21st birthday, 3 of my friends and I fly to the infamous gambling and entertainment Mecca of the world, Las Vegas to see if it lives up to the hype, and spend what is anticipated to be the best time of our lives so far.
Ever since we were first introduced to poker in the latter years of our school life, when we thought saying ‘all in’ meant even if you had less chips, you could still knock the other person out, and played that first home game in the kitchen of James’ house, we have been gripped by gambling in general. Now, I could tell you we’re all competent players with a decent knowledge due to our relatively extensive experience playing live poker, once playing 25 games in about the space of three days (obviously a wild and entertaining social life), but essentially were a bunch of fish that have binked a few local tournaments at the casino and one or two donkaments on the internet.
So, for probably around 6 years now we have all had pipe dreams about going to Vegas, living it up like ballas, pool parties, betting our net worth on red or black, eating like royalty and just generally soaking up the unique atmosphere one can only experience from that city in the desert. Well, this is the plan at least, may be more of eating at burger joints and $5 Blackjack at Bills, but a kids gotta dream.
In January of this year, we finally took the plunge and committed to booking the experience of a lifetime. The countdown begun then, and is creeping painfully slowly closer to the fateful day. Endless hours have been spent trawling the ever trusty LVL Forum, trying to absorb as much knowledge so we don’t seem like complete amateurs wandering about like the obvious tourists we are.
We convinced ourselves that since it may be the only time we ever have an opportunity to do this trip (yeah right), we would do it properly. Through Expedia, we booked a deal that secured us that roughly $1800 each, we have a direct flight from Manchester, and week with two suites in the Encore. Hey, you gotta treat yourself now and again.
A little background…
Rob (Myself)
Current student on a work placement year, with my final year due to start in September after my return from Vegas. I study Business management, and am essentially counting down the 28 days (at the time of writing) left until I’m on that plane! I’m obviously the youngest of the group, and have decided this trip is solely for my birthday celebrations!
Matty
An accountant by trade and the personality to match. It could be argued, and is a running joke within our group that he is as tight as a fishes arse. Unarguably the most affluent with greatest disposable income, I think Moses would have an easier time parting the Red Sea, as to try and part Matty from his money. Being friends since school, when we were in the same classes, I know him pretty well.
Graeme AKA Kes
Its unlikely that anyone reading this will have any clue what I’m talking about, but Graeme offers a striking resemblance to the Billy Casper boy in the British film ‘Kes’, a story about a bullied boy who befriends a Kestrel, or something along those lines. Unbeknown to me, this 24 year old is somehow part of our social group, probably due to his degeneracy, and I mean degeneracy. Plus he is a pretty nice guy, but if it came to it, he’d bet his sister on 10-1 shot in the blink of an eye, if a tip came from a passer by in the street. However, when it comes to poker, this guy could run good in clown shoes, so never write him off.
James
Recently graduated form University with a degree in Business Finance, or something along those line, James is another school friend who is also 21, and now a working man, is truly excited for our adventure. He’s also partial to a visit to the bookies, and other non authorised gambling establishments.
Let the pretending begin…..
If anyone actually shows an interest in me writing this TR, it may give me a little more motivation to actually try it while I’m in Vegas.

I was gonna say you overpaid until I saw that flights from Manchester to here are like $1400, so good score on the $1800 package price with the Encore suite!
Have a great time, get very drunk all day every day, don't buy drugs on the strip from shady looking people cause you'll just get ripped off, bang a lot of chicks (make sure to use that accent to it's full capabilities), run good, use lot's of sunscreen cause if you're English you're probably pasty white and the sun is a real hot bitch here, and don't get arrested!

Some observations while i subscribe:
1. When trying to Americanize your writing, step 1 is spelling "Americanize" with a "z".
2. I had to google kestrel to find out what one is. The kid befriends a falcon?! Wouldn't it like peck his eyes out? I plan on downloading the movie just to see.

Points duly noted.
What can I say, I'm pretty lazy...
1. I shall try to use the correct punctuation, spelling and grammar throughout, and next entry opt to actually proof read.
2. To be honest the only time I've ever seen the film 'Kes' was in an English lesson at school, a long time ago, so it could be a parrot for all I care.
3. And reference to the pretenders was more of a literal meaning i.e pretending to be ballas.

Can't wait 'til the actual TR starts.
4 english dudes in their early twenties in Vegas for the first time... hope it's full of win and a little bit of (funny) disaster.

Actually, if you truly wanted to "Americanize" your post. Keep all the all the bad grammar, punctuation, and spelling in your post. And make sure you come off pretentious, with a sense of entitlement.
